Pennsylvania is at risk of losing its blue status, worse, at a time when Rick Santorum is running for re-election, because of the bad choices Ed Rendell and his appointees are making.

Dear Fellow Concerned Citizen,

As you may know, it's very possible that we will be losing the most essential part of what it means to live in a democracy: the integrity of our vote. How this is coming about is mind-numbingly ludicrous, almost beyond comprehension. Because of one nterpretation of the, perhaps well-intentioned but very misguided, Help America Vote Act (HAVA), government officials are trying to foist electronic voting machines on us. Machines that break down, have huge security issues, can switch your vote without your realizing it, have no paper ballots to assure the accuracy of your choice, and absolutely no ability to provide recounts or audits should questions arise later about election results. They also cost millions of dollars, and won't last more than a few years. Our own Government Accountability Office even concludes there are major problems Don't you agree it is outrageous that they are even being considered? It would seem a very bad joke if it weren't so serious!

What is happening is a complete violation of our voting rights, because no one should be forced to vote on such insecure machines.

We need to do something, and do it fast. Tell every citizen you can, of every political stripe, about this crazy situation. We believe there isn't greater outrage because people just don't know about what's happening, or think there is little they can do. Not so! We are working on many fronts, and, with your help, there's a very good chance we can turn this around. What we need to do immediately is go to court and get an injunction to delay implementation of HAVA as well as challenge the standards used to certify electronic voting machines. That will give us precious more time to get the best voting system to insure every citizen's vote
will count.

We in the Coalition for Voting Integrity have been fighting for nothing less than a Voter Verified Paper Ballot system. Pennsylvania is a keystone state with critical elections in 2006. And while this fight has particular urgency for Pennsylvania, because not one certified machine currently has any type of paper audit, the repercussions of this will resonate throughout the entire nation. So our legal fights will be fought at the federal level. Stopping this erosion of our voice in government is of incalculable importance!

We in the CVI have been fighting this so far mostly with our own personal funds, but need substantially more money for the court battles to come.
