1. Mahatma Gandhi

2. Cesar Chavez

3. Corozon Aquino

4. Pope John Paul II

5. Eleanor Roosevelt

6. Vaclav Havel

7. Sari Nusseibeh

8. Liu Xia0bo

9. Ken Saro Wiwa

10. Thich Nhat Hanh (nominated but no award was given that year)

11. John Lennon
