As China Goes...

The only way out of the massive debt that has been, and is being racked up, is to stop spending. China -- the biggest benefactor of America -- is already cutting back on its investments in the United States.

Today's article, (presented below) "US needs to stop digging hole through to China," by Sydney Morning Herald's International Editor Peter Hartcher is only an opinion -- but it is one that is steeped in fact. You can rightfully blame Congress and not only the current administration but also the last administration for the economic problems currently being experienced, as well as for what caused the current economic problems. You also have to blame the American public for wanting more from the government -- especially for the ridiculous notion that single-payer health care is a magic formula to lower taxes for everyone. The only way out of the massive debt that has been, and is being racked up, is to stop spending. China -- the biggest benefactor of America -- is already cutting back on its investments in the United States. The public is whinging and whining about bailing out the big banks -- and most seem to think the money should be going to them. The difference is that the big banks and other recipients of the money have a better chance of paying back the bailout funds than if "the people" got the money. To try to revitalize the economy the way that it has been done makes more sense from that perspective than just paying off people's mortgages and what not. The debt is going to have to be repaid or the country will end up bankrupt. That means higher taxes across the board. Americans, especially Republicans, better get used to that idea fairly quickly and forget about their silly little "tea parties." The final words of Hartcher's editorial say a mouthful: "Discipline is an unfashionable concept in the rich countries. The alternative is relative national decline." Here's Hartcher...
