Venezuela-Iran: Comprehensive Mapping of Venezuela's Vast Mineral Resources

By Roy S. Carson

Sanz says that the most significant result from Chavez' visit to Teheran has been a comprehensive mapping of Venezuela's vast mineral resources and that Iran and Venezuela will move in the medium term to explore and certify reserves and to create a joint venture to mine gold, zinc, copper, bauxite, iron and other minerals towards creating a more diverse Venezuelan-Iranian commercial relationship.

VHeadline Venezuela News: Basic Industries & Mining (Mibam) Minister Rodolfo Sanz says that primarily by means of international cooperation and solidarity, President Chavez' visit to Iran should be seen as the starting block for a series of business projects that will benefit the majority of Venezuelans.  Sanz has been attending a joint Venezuela-Iran commission on the fringe of formal representations between both countries.

  • Sanz says that the most significant result from Chavez' visit to Teheran has been a comprehensive mapping of Venezuela's vast mineral resources and that Iran and Venezuela will move in the medium term to explore and certify reserves and to create a joint venture to mine gold, zinc, copper, bauxite, iron and other minerals towards creating a more diverse Venezuelan-Iranian commercial relationship.

"The establishment of a joint venture for the industrialization of mineral exploitation will form an alternative source of income to oil exports ... over the next five years we will develop an aggressive industrialization, exploitation and handling of mineral resources ... while we can not see mining as a primary source of government revenues, it will at least be a complementary alternative in our continuing progress in building Venezuela's future."
