The Worst Witch-Hunt in History

By Joyce Meijering

About the immorality of the media and the breakdown of the judicial system, the witch-hunt of O.J. Simpson and the social implications of it all.

::::::::

The witch-hunt is practically as old as evil itself. The story of Sodom is the story of a witch-hunt, and it is demonstrated why almost everybody participates: when Lot defends the victims they all go after him. The witch-hunter joins in so as to dissociate himself from the victim, out of fear of being seen and treated like that himself. So when Jesus was mistreated and then shown to the public, they were all terrified and cried “crucify him!”.

It is the law of the witch-hunt that the target is always accused of the very last thing he would ever do. Oscar Wilde is a classical example of the target of a witch-hunt. In fact, his reputation has never been restored. He was a very decent, monogamous man, but up until this very day he is seen as promiscuous, a client of male prostitutes and someone who found his own behavior immoral. His novel “The Picture of Dorian Grey” is the complete analysis of the psychology of evil and could only have been written by someone who is himself completely innocent, but it is still seen by many as a confession…

It is not the only thing he has in common with the victim of the worst witch-hunt ever: Mr. O.J. Simpson.

It started with him being wrongly convicted for abusing his wife. She didn’t want that trial, neither of them were prepared to discuss their relationship in public, so the jurors jumped to their own conclusions. Mister Simpson is a gentle, kind person who couldn’t physically abuse anybody.

Here you have four people: 1. A man who, at least up until the age of 40, was never accused of any form of violence and was seen by everyone who knew him as incapable of it; 2. A wife-beater; 3. A raving lunatic who brutally stabs two people to death; 4. An armed robber. Can anyone believe that two of these four people can be combined in one person?

Mister Simpson is not the victim of this vicious witch-hunt in spite of the fact that he is the most innocent man in the world, but because of it.

For those murders he had, in fact, an alibi; he couldn’t possibly have had the time to do it. Many people have tried to undermine this alibi, bringing in all kinds of accomplices, but no one has ever been able to come up with a realistic story that fitted the facts. Without such a story there is no evidence; it should be the starting-point of the prosecution…

Moreover, there was a group of people Nicole Brown had contact with, one of them a woman who was connected with a very similar murder; right after that murder, she disappeared; right after this one she disappeared again. One can be practically sure that the murderer was a member of that group. Mister Simpson did everything in his power to make Nicole Brown break up with this group, thus being probably the only person who has tried to prevent the murders he has later been held responsible for. He gave the information to the police and the prosecution; they weren’t interested, anymore than they were interested in his alibi. He was arrested and prosecuted by people who knew him to be innocent.

There is something else that I find rather shocking. At first Lou Brown said he had last spoken with his daughter over the phone after eleven, which would have given Mr. Simpson an alibi no one could get around. Later he changed that to an earlier time. Much later it was realized by people working for Mr. Simpson that the phone records were never shown in court, something you would expect to be a matter of routine. They tried to get those records, they needed the signature of a judge, what they considered to be a formality; they took it to court three times, three times it was refused.

Which brings me to political issues. What is wrong with the judicial system all over the world is that it is organized like a contest. When the representatives of the system break the law and it is found out, they are not treated as criminals like they should, they lose points, they risk losing the game. In the very worst case they lose their jobs but that rarely ever happens. They are not so easily found out anyway as there is no system to investigate their behavior.

This makes the jobs of prosecutor and judge very attractive to criminals. Of course a prosecutor who lets the guilty go in order to have innocent people executed is one of the most brutal serial murderers imaginable, and should be treated as such.

What is needed is something like a “special branch” for prosecutors and judges, to investigate their actions, and the rule that when these people don’t keep to the law they can no longer be seen as representing it, and should be seen as ordinary criminals.

It seems to me that the fundamental principles of justice are broken down further en further and one of the reasons is that the media don’t care anymore about what happens in the real world. The rule that a story should be either verified or the source be mentioned is long forgotten. The lies they have been spreading about Mr. Simpson are incredible, about that “car-chase” that was never brought up in court because it never happened, made up “quotations” from an imaginary diary etc. etc., and these things keep coming up… The media have completely given up on the concept of truth, they create a fantasyland inhabited by demons and nobody knows where we really are anymore; that is the end of democracy.

I consider it to be the complete collapse of the judicial system to try people for crime in a civil court, giving up on the most sacred principal of them all: innocent until proved guilty. Of course, 33 million dollar was not meant as compensation, but as punishment, making sure he would be haunted by it for the rest of his life.

Mr. Simpson proved his innocence once more in “If I Did It” but they have no logic and call it a confession.

If only the president would take a peek at those phone records …

This “armed robbery” case was of course a incredible show-trial. Jurors pre-selected so as to make a conviction certain, witnesses carefully instructed as to what lies they should tell.

I think that in America, whenever a black person is the victim of white injustice, people say to easily: racism. Of course other things can be going on and in this case I think what has been happening is mainly witch-hunt; but of course racism enters into it. With racism having become a taboo, but Mr. Simpson being completely free game, one can expect the racists to direct it all against him. “That ape should be locked in a cage” – I can collect thousands of comments like that from the internet within a day.

So I think the similarity between those “frame the negro”-trials that were so popular in the American South in the fifty’s and this case is no coincidence, it’s nostalgia… An all-white jury determined to convict, evidence openly fabricated, only to serve as an excuse for such a conviction, the white judge talking to the defendant like as if he where a naughty schoolboy (didn’t they call them all “boy” back then?) and finally the defendant getting a much more severe sentence for having failed to humiliate himself enough.

Few people think Mr. Clarence Stewart ever did anything wrong, but he serves as a shining example: “This, children, is what happens to you if you make friends with the target of a witch-hunt…”

They can only get a fair trial when all the jurors believe he is innocent of murder, as giving him the benefit of the doubt implies going on that assumption, but the witch-hunters are incapable of even imagining him innocent. They have the same sense of certainty and self-righteousness as those people who did the vicious name-calling and threatening to that little black girl that went to the white school… So I am very much afraid they won’t win the appeal either.

Many witch-hunters believe Mr. Simpson will never come out alive, and they gloat…

What do you think will happen if he dies in there? You don’t believe those polls that say he has hardly any supporters left, do you? They are just another weapon. All witnesses who have seen how the public reacts to him will tell you differently. You can be sure that he has many millions of supporters, who admire him for being a great and beautiful person, and if they are anything like me their grief will only be surpassed by their fury and I don’t see how that can ever be cured and how the damage to society can ever be repaired. This is, of course, also the powerless having been ridiculed and humiliated ever since 1995 by the ruling classes, with this trial as the grand apotheosis.

It’s not to late yet, he can still be saved…
