A poem demanding restoration of the constitution

It bleeds -
Lie-slit, torture-slashed, power-shredded.

It waits for law to wipe it clean,

To hold it for the nation with pride,
To call the small people, the shower-AFTER-work people, the choose-heat-or-food people and offer help.

It bleeds with lost honor.

It bleeds with lowered expectations.

It bleeds with the need to trade persecution of the poor
For prosecution of the powerful.

Yes he can is not enough. Yes he must is the need.

I'm a retired teacher who is discouraged by our greedy government and the strength of the cultural/religious/superstitious traditions that surround me. Yesterday I cleaned the yard gathering compost for next year's garden and trimmed the apple tree to encourage next year's crop. I am trying to drive less, walk more and keep the thermostat down.
