We're all fearful, but we need hope!

By winston

Let's consider this. If it gets into the mass culture it was prevalent. What is a better example of this than the lyrics of the time? Rock groups in the 1960 era echoed sentiments-sometimes presaged those of the youth of the period. Congressman Lewis agrees with the Rascals--a group whose popularity reached its apex during the time period Lewis is discussing, that mini-me's campaign has similarities to Wallace's.

::::::::

Who doesn't get up every day worrying about their families, their jobs, the economy, and the situation crises of life, but mini-me's campaign is using code words that drive up the fear of his crowd of supporters regarding a fellow US Senator. On October 10th he realized that that tactic was driving away the people he was trying to attract. That caused him to tell the people in his hate and fear rally that Obama wasn't an Arab. It got to that point because of McCain mini-me. He hired his minister of peace--Palin, to lie about their foe. His propaganda apparatus--FOX news and Clear Channel Radio daily spew Karl Rove's diatribe against Obama.

Think about the audiences of mini-me's speeches. It is another of Herr Karl's ploys. Big bro 43's speeches were famous for being delivered only to his most ardent supporters. But who goes to mini-me's rallies? It is only the most vapid, rabid, GOP right-wing extremist. It is that poor soul wandering up to a microphone and saying that she has been convinced that Obama is an Arab. That poor dear needs help, but all of the people in the crowd agree with her, and consequentially were equally as demented as that poor lost soul.

Who is mini-me's intended audience at these rallies? It is not the typical red stater. These people's vote is already in Herr Karl's pocket. It is the undecided. How does someone at this stage of the election, with the economy in the shambles that everyone predicted years ago, and unemployment rampant, and the US embroiled in two awful wars reach a stage of stupidity that they can't decide who they want to vote for?

I sometimes wonder if I have drifted into insanity, but there have been recent articles which validate the points I'm making.

The article "Anger Is Crowd's Overarching Emotion at McCain Rally"
at
states ""It is absolutely vital that you take it to Obama, that you hit him where it hits, there's a soft spot," said James T. Harris, a local radio talk show host, who urged the Republican nominee to use Barack Obama's controversial former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., and others against him.
"We have the good Reverend Wright. We have [the Rev. Michael L.] Pfleger. We have all of these shady characters that have surrounded him," Harris bellowed. "We have corruption here in Wisconsin and voting across the nation. I am begging you, sir. I am begging you. Take it to him."

Mini-me is selecting speakers whose words will rile up the crowds hatred. The crowds have yelled "Kill him!", "Behead him!" Mini-me is playing a game of saying these vile comments aren't his at his rallies, which stoke hatred just as Hitler rallies did. He selects these hate mongerers, but these words aren't his. He allows this to occur at his town meetings, but in the debates he pretends that he is Obama's friend. That is psychotic.

Why does he shake Obama's hand and not look at him and grant the code phrase "That one." There have been many analyses of the remark and Don Hammonds of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette clearly wrote:  "Regardless of intent, it showed Senator McCain to be culturally ignorant, and completely unaware of the implications of what his off-the-cuff statement meant to people of colour.
Whether Senator McCain meant it that way or not, if you are a person of colour, and someone trots out the 'that one' remark, you instantly take it as racist. I know that I did."

Mini-me has let the genie of bigotry and hatred out of the bottle and can't control it as the article continues, "The crowds that show up for his rallies these days appear to have little appetite for the talk of bipartisan compromise that had been at the heart of his message around the Republican National Convention. During a rally outside a small airport in Mosinee, Wis., on Thursday, McCain said that "it's time we come together, Democrats and Republicans to work together. That's my record. I'll reach across the aisle." The crowd stood silent.

Mini-me is spreading the hypocrisy that Obama is orchestrating an effort to steal votes via Acorn, which is absurd and--because the main-stream media can't pursue lies and hatred--mini-me's lipstick adorned pit bull Palin, attacks the media.
You get people who are full of hatred all roiled up and you act surprised when you can't control their emotional outbursts. Mini-me can't believe that we believe that excuse. He must think that we all are as intellectually challenged as the people who attend his hate rallies.

The article "McCain Moves to Soften the Tone at Rallies, if not in Ads"
at   click here    stated "At the end of perhaps the most charged and negative week of the presidential campaign, Sen. John McCain sought to tone down his rhetoric toward Sen. Barack Obama even as his running mate, allies and his own advertising continued to attack the character of the Democratic nominee.... At one point in the event, McCain grabbed back the microphone from an elderly woman who had begun to say that she didn't like Obama because he is an Arab. "No, ma'am. No, ma'am," McCain said. "He's a decent family man, a citizen who I just happen to have serious differences with on fundamental questions."

So, mini-me is ticking off his base, alienating the dangerous loonies in his crowd, and he's upsetting the few moderate undecided voters left. This is mini-me's pattern regarding his responses which fly from extreme to extreme regarding the economy and the bailout also. This erratic behavior alienates voters.

The Rascals back in the days of RFK's assassination had a song "Ray of Hope"! That positive optimistic emotion is what Obama is appealing to.

The Rascals on the same lp had a song "Look Around" in which the lyric was "hate and death and fear-got 10 million votes this year." It was about George Wallace and how his campaign of fear mongering attracted those in the US who had no hope-the brethren of mini-me's hate rally members.

The article "Congressman says McCain 'sowing seeds of hatred'"
at  click here   states "Rep. John Lewis, a Georgia Democrat and veteran of the civil rights movement, says the negative tone of the Republican presidential campaign reminds him of the hateful atmosphere that segregationist Gov. George Wallace fostered in Alabama in the 1960s....In a statement issued Saturday, Lewis said McCain and running mate Sarah Palin were "sowing the seeds of hatred and division, and there is no need for this hostility in our political discourse." He noted that Wallace also ran for president...."George Wallace never threw a bomb. He never fired a gun, but he created the climate and the conditions that encouraged vicious attacks against innocent Americans who were simply trying to exercise their constitutional rights," said Lewis, who is black.... "My statement was a reminder to all Americans that toxic language can lead to destructive behavior," he said. "I am glad that Sen. McCain has taken some steps to correct divisive speech at his rallies. I believe we need to return to civil discourse in this election about the pressing economic issues that are affecting our nation."

These quotes emphasize that Rep. Lewis, as well as a popular rock lyric of the 1960 era agree that mini-me is emulating George Wallace. Frankly, mini-me's hate rallies remind of Hitler's! Once that hatred is introduced who can confidently predict how it will end? In the "Summer of Love" we all believed that love begets love and hate begets hate. Sometimes a harsh word is responded to with another harsh word, but loonies--such as those at mini-me's hate rallies--aren't in control of their emotions. For people such as that, words don't satisfy their hate as well as a hard shove, punch, kick, perhaps worse. Maybe the audience that mini-me is hoping to appeal to--the apathetic undecided voters--will see an act of violence against the press or an Obama supporter on national TV. That might very well be the legacy of Herr Karl-run mini-me campaign.

Mini-me is trying to pull back the hatred. Who can say he'll succeed? Why is he trying to be more respectful of "That One"? Because polls are saying that his negatives are sky rocketing. He doesn't care about decency--only votes!

Winston Smith is an ex-Social Worker. I worked in child welfare, and in medical settings and in homeless settings. In the later our facility was geared as a permanent address for people to apply for welfare. Once they received that we could send them to facilities in which their welfare paid the bill and provided enough for a meager existence. We also referred people to vocational rehabilitation services. Many of the people who came to us were people who were clearly emotionally ill, but Reagan's slashing of the services for these people caused them to become homeless. One woman I dealt with-St. Jane, believed she was in direct communication with God, urinated freely without using the facilities and she had 47 bags of trash which were prized possessions. She got welfare and was sent to a facility were she could survive. The rule was that our facility could be used 1 time only as we had too many people who thought that the services that we provided we would lift them from the dire straights that they were in. Well, we provided our services for St. Jane around Thanksgiving. On Christmas Eve she was back with her 47 bags of trash and wanted to stay at our facility. I informed my superior of this situation, but we declined to provide services for St. Jane. She slept in front of our facility in a snowstorm. The local rag took the picture and excoriated us for what we did. The local welfare department asked her where she would like to live. St. Jane said Chicago because she liked the wind. She knew on one there. She and her 47 bags of trash of were carted onto a train for the windy city and never of again. The local welfare department was glad to get shed of her. Social welfare in the mid-1980's was geared to blame the victim. Ill people were sent home from hospitals were no one was going to help them because social welfare budgets were slashed by Reagan. Bush 41's â"thousand points of lightâ" was just another way to shaft the weakest in our society. Bush 43's faith based initiative was just another attempt to reduce social welfare services. Reagan's â"Just say Noâ" was the pinnacle of hypocrisy. No services for those who desperately needed them under the guise of tough love.

Obviously I became burnt out by too much indifference regarding our weak and weary. I couldn't look at desperate people and could not get myself to say that what I could offer them wouldn't really help themâ"”it would only get them out of my office to be another person's problem, until the local welfare department carted them away.

I had little interest in politics until the illegal Iraq War started. Growing up in the 1960's caused me to understand that the GOP used war to attract right-wing extremists to vote for them. When â"Tricky Dick'sâ" secret plan to end the Vietnam War unfolded into elongating our presence there for 8 years I knew that I would never believe a GOP war-monger again. I dislike Obama's plan to escalate our presence in Afghanistan and see it as a craven attempt to placate the GOP. Maybe he'll reduce the GOP's attacks against him, but it will at the expense of alienating his base.
