A Third Party Debate with McCain and Obama?

By Kevin Gosztola

The Ron Paul money bombs were imaginative and creative. It was unconventional and energizing to the Ron Paul campaign to know that there was this power at the fingertips of the campaign to run a real campaign for liberty. That power the people wielded can be wielded again and exercised by we the people.

::::::::

I suppose you might be one of those people sitting at home wondering what to do. You want to do something. But what? What can you do?

You probably figure you can go work for Obama at campaign headquarters. That will help. It will help us get one step closer to the world we want to live in.

You probably figure you can go to this meeting and that meeting and join this group and support that action. Great. Good. Fantastic.

How about money? What’s your financial situation? Are you on a monthly plan or just a plan to donate money every now and then to some political campaign or to some group like MoveOn.org?

Maybe you’ve given up all hope and you’ve taken all your chips and are planning to walk away from the table. You plan to stop gambling in the game of politics here in America. You’re tired of always being on the side that loses.

So, why not, you say, go out and buy some alcohol, get a lottery ticket, rent some movies or go to the movies, go shopping (it will boost the economy), and sleep so you can be rested up for your next day of work.

If you’re unemployed, well, sorry you don’t have another day of work ahead of you. But, there’s still plenty for you to do because you’re part of a class that war is being waged upon.

All of you who care are probably planning on voting. If it seems like I am taking a long time to get to the point here, I am and it’s because I want to pull you in (the reader) and then keep your attention so I can deliver this crafty point to you.

First, please go donate $1 to $10 dollars at least to OpEdNews.com.

Our nation needs imaginative and creative organization in the political sphere if we are to seriously make any gains in our favor in the not-so-distant future.

People who are copying and pasting Greg Palast’s information on how the 2008 election has been stolen are using their imagination and creativity to do something very unconventional with the hopes of ensuring that Barack Obama does not lose millions of votes in November. Right?

That’s one example. Here’s another---

Trevor Lyman is the man who organized the Ron Paul money bombs.

One Lyman money bomb raised $4 million in one day.

Another raised $6 million in one day.

Now, Lyman is at it again.

Lyman wants to hold a third party debate in New York City.

Lyman was inspired by Ron Paul's press conference a couple of weeks ago.

At that press conference, Paul called on his followers to ditch the two major parties and throw their support to one of the independent or third party candidates.

So, we all need to support Lyman's push for an alternative debate now.

If Lyman gets 10,000 pledges by October 8, he and the other sponsors will organize a debate in New York City.

All major candidates -- Nader, Barr, McKinney, Baldwin, Obama and McCain will be invited.

Already, with no publicity, Lyman has close to 1,000 pledgers.

The Ron Paul money bombs were imaginative and creative. It was unconventional and energizing to the Ron Paul campaign to know that there was this power at the fingertips of the campaign to run a real campaign for liberty. That power the people wielded can be wielded again and exercised by we the people.

This plan here has been hatched with the same imagination and creativity necessary for our future.

We cannot look at this election with a lens that leaves out four of the six candidates that are on enough ballots across the U.S. to win in an open, free, and fair election.

If more must be said to convince you to support the right of more candidates to be allowed into the debates, both McCain and Obama met with Bush and others to discuss how to handle the bailout. Neither opposed it but wanted to find out how to fashion a piece of policy to deal with moving forward in America after the bailout.

The policy would be short term. Long term could be determined when either took office in January. Or not.

The debate on Friday, September 26th made it painfully obvious that even if you do not want to vote third party in November the third party options should be on stage to make the discussion of the issues substantive. McCain and Obama on their own will not have meaningful discussion or debate of anything so long as they stand alone on stage.

What can you do? Well, let me rephrase the question---What can more money to Obama do? What can more money to either of the third party campaigns do? What can money to MoveOn or some other citizen or political action group do? What can money towards progressive publications do?

What can all these do? Nothing meaningful and that is why any money you think you should throw towards this election should be aimed at increasing the talk on the issues and shifting it to a substantive discussion.

Throw your money at Lyman’s next money bomb. When it drops, the two major parties that are playing us like fools with this bailout and the Bush administration will drop their jaws in amazement at the power of the people.

Say it loud, “All power to the people.” This bomb could be a game changer, something we desperately need to see happen.
