Blood of the Earth

By O'Terry

A Poem for Our Mother Earth

::::::::

Blood of the Earth

The blood of the earth is thick and it’s black.

It flows through veins straight down through a crack.

A hole in the surface punctures her back.

She aches and she groans.

She spews and she spits.

Liquid gold heated in pit,

Steaming the waters in lakes,

a warm bath for her people to take.

Red hot heat oozes out of her mouth,

exploding and revealing the inside of herself.

Take her seriously whenever she cries.

Don’t want to be here if she ever dies.

Deep down in her heart she feels the strain

Of those who take her life’s blood in vain.

A victim of greed is our mother, the earth.

We consume her gifts and bleed her dry,

burning her blood ‘til there is no more sky.

It makes me sad.

Please, mother, don’t die.

Authors Bio:
Well, for the record, I am a "newbie" here but I have always been a bit of a non-traditionalist in some ways and find intelligent discussions and/or debates on the usual taboo subjects (i.e.: politics and religion) particularly interesting and stimulating. Maybe it has to do with my interest in philosophy or maybe it has to do with my natural Irish tendency to just love a good argument...lol...as well as a good laugh. Anyway, I am thoroughly enjoying reading the various articles I've found so far on this sight. I may not agree with all of them but I do find some of them very enlightening and certainly interesting. I write poetry myself, and have written a few rather "political" ones but honestly, most of them are about love, sex, family and/or ice cream!! I may even publish a few on this site just to "test the waters", so to speak. In the meantime, I plan on continuing my journey to enlightenment. Glad to meet you all on my way!
