A roundup of the news and blogs, especially right-leaning publications, shows that Republicans are still not very happy with their candidate.

Commenters to the WaPo story titled Conservatives Ready to Battle McCain on Convention Platform (where you can get a peek at McCain wearing a super-cool pair of "Mac-Daddy" sunglasses that he seems to have picked up at the local Army-Navy store) say this:

aallen1 asked a question to which any answer would be disheartening to McCain backers: "Are you sure these conservative activists aren't Obama supporters in disguise, trying to make Republicans look ridiculous?"

Having no choice in the location of his birth, but still considering it his biggest achievement in life, 12thgenamerican wrote: "i will vote for barr because of this nonsense."

PutDownTheKoolaid offered a Columbus-inspired quip: "Yep, the flat earthers in the GOP would rather sacrifice the future of our planet than admit they are wrong about anthropogenic climate change."

Paddy1 said while drowning his sorrows at the pub: "Another WaPo attempt to document a schism in the Republican Party as wide as the multiple schisms in the Democratic Party. I and many other conservatives and moderates are voting for McCain not because he's the nominee of the Republican Party, but because Obama is the nominee of the Democratic Party. McCain is my least favorite Republican, but the alternative is scary..."

nodebris offered an uncluttered evaluation of the circumstances: "The problem the Republicans have this year is the only candidate they have a hope of getting elected this year is one that doesn't represent their views. Because their views are utterly rejected by the majority of Americans, and rightly so. So, they can either be Republicans, or they can get elected."

As you can see, there is a shortage of Republican commenters at the Post. I'm bettin' that's because most are too embarrassed to say much of anything at anyplace where they are outnumbered by people with brains that actually function. Which happens to be pretty much anywhere in the world except the most hate-filled right-wing blogs.

And on Political Machine, which reports in its own roundup of McCain woes entitled McCain's Convention Nightmare(including the fact that Ron Paul has scheduled his own "miniconvention" around the same time and nearly the same location as the "biggun"), we see:

mountainlion shows that felines can spew garbled racial hate through the flag wrapped around their empty heads with the best of 'em: "obama=loser....obama doesnt need a stadium, more like a big church like trinity united church of christ and his mentor wright can introduce him and his agenda for his new world order. is this why you suck up to obama? are you angling for a job with obama for shoeshine boy? vote american, vote mccain. justsaynodeal. puma."

Jack F. Doyle mourns the loss of an exemplary practioner of conservative values: "Too bad Jesse the Helmsman is not around to intro the newly conservative John McSame at the convention..."

buck is stuck scratching his head: "The only plausible reason I can come up with for the GOP pushing the loser candidate McCain on us Republicans is that they knew they were going to lose and chose someone at the very end of his career since it won't matter to him if he gets crushed in November. I'll be voting Bob Barr in November since the neo-conservatives have taken the GOP off on the wrong track for years."

Dottie is concerned about the GOP candidate's questionable faculties: "Senator McCain has a new economic policy named Lexington Project. Over the weekend he made some remarks about his new policy but he mispronounced it twice on the third try he called it Project Lexington. He can't even remember the name of his economic policy Do we want this old man in the Whitehouse? I say hell no."

While Republican Grandma For Obama opens up a can o' ass-whuppin' on ageism, and gives us young 'uns a lesson in deductive reasoning:

Ok! Lets think about this?
McCain is the man who voted to send our bravest to die looking for weapons of mass destruction that did not exist.
McCain is the man who does not know that 9-11 was caused by Osama Bin Laden not Saddam Hussein.
McCain is the man who does not know if the Sunnis or Shiites are our enemies!
McCain is the man who put our government on the China/Saudi Arabia credit card.
McCain is the man has adopted virtually the entire Bush agenda, often reversing long held positions and compromising supposed core principles. From Iraq, tax cuts for the wealthy, broken promises on the deficit to opposition to SCHIP, tax credits for health care, overturning Roe v. Wade and a right-wing Supreme Court, John McCain represents a third Bush term.
Get real!
Our only hope is Obama.

REPLACE-DEMS-IN-CONGRESS mentions McCain only as an afterthought while proving the theory that all the '22 percenters' are truly and completely off their rockers:

I have only respect for President Bush, Laura and the entire Bush family. They are Americans we can look up to and be proud of. I have always loved the Bush family --- They are a warm and loving family --- They have brought back dignity and class into the White House --- I will surely miss them...We're beginning to understand why Barack Obama keeps protesting so vigorously against the prospect of "George Bush's third term." MAYBE HE'S WORRIED THAT SOMEONE WILL NOTICE THAT HE'S THE CANDIDATE WHO'S RUNNING FOR IT...

Until we get the Democrats out of control in Congress, the damage cannot be undone --- and if the Democratic candidate (Obama) wins the presidency, we are in deep doo-doo that will forever leave it's stench and stain on our country. GOD BLESS AMERICA --- GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS --- AND GOD BLESS PRESIDENT BUSH FOR KEEPING TERRORISTS OFF OUR SOIL SINCE 9/11.
