Happy Pretendence Day

By Michael Shaw

No civil liberties, illegal spying, at the mercy of corporate oil.....we need a new national anthem, something that more closely resembles the America we are currently living in. Gene London gives us the real song.

::::::::

Here we are on yet another 4th of July, a day we celebrate in independence. But beyond the bombs bursting in air and our flag still being there, what on earth do we really have to celebrate? Loss of liberty? Domestic spying? Getting gouged at the gas pump? A congress without a backbone? Extreme rendition? Telecom immunity? Tax breaks to the rich? If this is what we call celebrating our independence, then perhaps we need a new national anthem. Goodbye Francis Scott Key and hello Gene London!

New National Anthem:

Let's pretend that it's story time and I'll tell a tale to you,
I'll tell you a story of make believe where all your dreams come true.
And when the story's over and when we reach the end
We'll live happily ever after! Where?
In the land of Let's pretend!
