How stupid are we and what does Net Neutrality have to do with it?

By Paul Kruger

"Ask the political scientists and you will be told that there is damning, hard evidence pointing incontrovertibly to the conclusion that millions are embarrassingly ill-informed and that they do not care that they are."

How stupid are we and what does Net Neutrality have to do with it?

First it is important to understand that just because we have virtually unlimited access to knowledge and information does not make us an informed society. You have to actually access that knowledge for it to be of any value.

Read this article: http://www.alternet.org/democracy/90161/

Two paragraphs in this article illustrate the dire situation that allows our lives to be manipulated by government and big business.

"The study by the new McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum found that 22 percent of Americans could name all five Simpson family members, compared with just 1 in 1,000 people who could name all five First Amendment freedoms."

and

"Ask the political scientists and you will be told that there is damning, hard evidence pointing incontrovertibly to the conclusion that millions are embarrassingly ill-informed and that they do not care that they are."

Where does Net Neutrality fit into this issue?

The Internet is probably the single most available source of knowledge available today. As an open and neutral network it represents the single best hope for educating the masses. We know our schools can only do so much and have limited resources.

Any change in the system that would result in a loss of net neutrality could close the door on many aspects of education presently available.

We face two challenges. One is to get people to actually use the resources available to them to learn more...to become better educated citizens so they can effectively participate in their own futures and two, we have to keep the net open, neutral and free of the profit-motivated control of service providers like AT&T, Comcast, Verizon, Sprint and or any other ISP.

Make your elected officials understand LOUD AND CLEAR that they must preserve Net Neutrality.
