SHOPPING SPREE! The $3 trilliion spendathon is on for us.

By Virginia Simson

The best web "game" ever is hitting the blogosphere. Show that you can spend $3 trillion dollars better than BuZhCo. A message via Glen Greenwold from me to you .. www,3trillion.org

::::::::

I have an itching to spend, spend, spend.

Although thousands get paid surveilling me every year, I live in a pittance economy tyring to keep enough money for cream in my coffee at the end of the month.

My "esteemed" warmonger government SERVANTS have spent vast amounts conducting an illegal war, while eating five-star dinners as stretch their greedy hands into pockets with feeling the gold We the people are providing them.

Doesn't take me much imagination to consider what I would do with a big bumper crop of ca$h like the CIA, CONgress, the cabal, the defense contractors, Big Pharma got over the past seven years.

I've made several lists over the years - who'd I'd prosecute given a chance, who I would reward for Good Behavior on the blogosphere, and even drawn up a list of suggested RECONSTRUCT AMERICA and CANADA items.

Today I was DELIGHTED to get the email from www.3trillion.org, a Glen Greenwold "production".

I can think of plenty of ways to SPEND, SPEND, SPEND $3 trillion buck$.

I am sure ALL of you have your favorite projects in mind, too. Here is the blurb on the website:

The occupation of Iraq will cost $3 trillion, America's most expensive conflict since WWII.
Can YOU spend that money better?
Here's your chance to go on a virtual $3 trillion shopping spree and prove it!

Browse our online store, fill up your cart, click the checkout button, and send virtual gifts to everyone you know.

A private island fortress? Healthcare for all? Anything you can imagine, and if you can't find it, add it yourself!

If you go to the website you'll see plenty of ideas if you find yourself at a loss. Watch the video, read some other people's ideas.

C'mon! Here at OpEd News, with our fine sensibilities we can find GREAT ways to spend those buck$.

A lot of my ideas have to do with setting up legal funds for impeachment and to secure human rights which come as no suprise to anyone who reads what I post. But I sure like to buy that wishlist I have tucked away on amazon.com that I can never afford, too.

I'd like more stuff that aids my creativity! I'd like to keep this project going on forever and seeing people BUST LOOSE .. free days off for all those who participate!

A carton of jellybeans for each that took part in the secret NAU/SPP talks and a guard to make sure they eat them all in less than 4 hours.

Money to help me buy new clothes and toys for Iraki orphans and to get the 9-year prostitutes out of Syria and safely back home to Baghdad.

A GIGANtITHON public party to take place everywhere when we see the cabal in the docket and all the money it takes to prosecute every single crime they that they have ever committed!

A rebate cheque in my pocket for every dime wasted on surveilling me so I can do a little economic stimulus shopping to revive the American economy. Should come to to a pretty big amount by now.  Not buying foreign cars, cheap imported Asian goods made by slave labor - I'll probably throw a big party at an Indian casino to help out AMERICA!!

Free yurts for anyone that wants them and the land to put them on.

Sculpture seminars for those who care to make something out of the B-52s. F-15 eagles, and black heliicopters and turn them into something truly beautiful.

Putting all that mining equipment that is digging up uranium into erecting a peace museum. And compensationg all du victims ..

Oh, the list is endless. I think I'd almost settle for someone to come in and help me clean my apartment at this point and free groceries and printer ink of my choice for a year, I am SO frustrated!! FREE ISP SERVICE FOR ALL, I say!

I want to remind you of my Education for Democracy Project - DVDs and CD-Roms for every school and library in the land and all who want them containing the Declaration of Human Rights, the GENEVA accords, the US Constitution, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Responsibilities as well on instructions on how to file citizen's complaints and get arrest warrants, the best way to write letters of protest ....  I'd like to see Participatory Democracy ON THE TABLE.

And although the new GI bill is gaining alot of support, I would MOST certainly liike to see all vets and even maimed mercenaries to get a break.  We need them, whatever the crimes they were ordered to commit to have a chance a good life and to atone for their mistakes.  I want to see them over in IraK builing beautiful buidlings for widows and orphans with magnficient gardens ..

I'd like to give Omar Khadr's family a VACATION and we would stroll together in the sunshine ..

And at long last, I"d have my OWN url, too!

How about YOU?

Check it out!! Anybody shopping already care to tell me their spending ideas?

In case you aren't motivated, read this is from their website, too:

Think you can spend $3 trillion better than President Bush?
“Just counting the zeroes on the $3 trillion price tag of the Iraq War is enough to induce hyperventilation. But what does $3 trillion really mean? It’s difficult even to comprehend a number that big. Well, try filling your shopping cart with what the cost of the Iraq War could buy: healthcare for every American? A new home for every subprime borrower now facing foreclosure? An Ivy League university? You haven’t even gotten started.”
-Nobel prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz
co-author of The Three Trillion Dollar War

Browse through our departments or use the search box to find a product. Once you've found something you like, simply add it to your cart. If you want to add more than one, keep on clicking—after all, our government just loves to spend spend spend. (Can't locate something you want? Simply "add a product" and follow the steps.) When you're all finished, proceed to the checkout, where you'll be able to complete your order and e-mail your virtual gifts to friends.

What are you waiting for? Get shopping!

You can also get involved in your local community by attending a Tax Day 2008 event on April 15th, or hosting an Iraq Town Hall anytime in April.

$3 TRILLION isn't just how much the Iraq War will cost our government, it's how much it will cost our sputtering economy. When the Bush administration launched this war, they claimed Americans would not have to make sacrifices. They even cut taxes with the help of a Republican-led Congress, rather than raising them as had been done historically in times of war. According to Nobel laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz and Harvard professor Linda Bilmes in their book The Three Trillion Dollar War, we're fighting an unnecessary war on borrowed money. The war has caused our skyrocketing national debt. And more than anything else, the war has caused our recession.

Here's how $3 trillion breaks down:

  • $526 billion — borrowed money poured into Iraq so far
  • $615 billion — total interest costs for taxpayers
  • $280 billion — to rebuild our military
  • $590 billion — disability benefits and health care for Iraq veterans
  • $1.5 trillion — estimated costs through 2017

So do the "patriotic" thing. Start shopping right now:
