Dear Representative Yamashita,

I hope that Representative Josh Green's resolution can soon be heard in your committee creating a task force to study and discuss aspartame. In the past year all the large food chains in the UK such as Sainsburys, Marks & Spencer and even Walmart ASDA have removed aspartame.

Simply changing to a different safe sweetener will only enhance economics and save money in Hawaii from a different standpoint. For instance, you have a large epidemic of diabetes, and aspartame not only can precipitate diabetes, but simulates and aggravates diabetic retinopathy and neuropathy, destroys the optic nerve, causes diabetics to go into convulsions and even interacts with insulin. The free methyl alcohol that is liberated from this excitoneurotoxic carcinogenic drug is even causing diabetics to lose limbs.

This is all explained in detail in the 1000 page medical text on the global epidemic, Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic by diabetic specialist, H.J. Roberts, M.D. Rep Green has a copy and can show it to you.

Aspartame is certainly responsible for raging diabetic epidemics and can kill the victims. In fact, it triggers an irregular heart rhythm and interacts with all cardiac medication. It damages the cardiac conduction system and causes sudden death. We believe many of the athlete deaths have been caused by aspartame, and Doctors H. J. Roberts, Russell Blaylock and James Bowen have written articles as an alert to athletes and pilots in particular.

Another epidemic occurring in Hawaii is suicide. This also could be partially related to aspartame because the molecule has 50% phenylalanine. This lowers the seizure threshold and depletes serotonin. Lowered serotonin triggers manic depression or bipolar, suicidal tendencies, panic attacks, paranoia, schizophrenic, mood swings and even schizophrenia. Aspartame interacts with virtually all drugs because of damage to the mitochondria or life of the cell. The world experts on aspartame have many times said mental hospitals are full of patients that are simply aspartame victims.

Hawaii has a lot to gain by beginning to discuss evidence of this in Josh Green's proposes task force, especially from the standpoint of consumer protection. Aspartame was never proven safe, and I'm sure your committee will be given copies of the documentary, Sweet Misery: A Poisoned World; this DVD includes James Turner, Attorney, explaining how Don Rumsfeld got this poison on the market after the FDA had not only attempted to have the company indicted for fraud but also revoked the petition for approval.

Recently, even Coke in Mexico agreed not to use cyclamate because of consumer outrage, as cyclamates have been off the market for many years in the USA. It was simply a matter of reformulation. In fact, Coke is now working with a company to add a new sweetener made from Stevia. They see the writing on the wall.

Russell Blaylock, M.D., Neurosurgeon, wrote in his book, Health & Nutrition Secrets To Save Your Life: "So in the case of diet drinks in aluminum cans, the very toxic brain aluminum fluoride compound co-exists with multiple toxins found in aspartame, thus creating the most powerful government approved toxic soup imaginable." He also wrote, "Early experiments using low, medium and high doses with aspartame all found dramatic tumor increases in test animals. These included brain, pancreas, and breast tumors, and tumors of the testes, thyroid and prostate. Experiments also demonstrated a direct correlation between intake quantity and tumor incidence."

Dr. Blaylock also stated that "Aspartame also contains methanol, which breaks down in the body into formaldehyde and formic acid. Formaldehyde had been shown to accumulate near DNA, causing serious damage that is accumulative. That means that drinking even one diet cola a day can cause formaldehyde buildup in cells, so that the amount of the toxin increases daily." He wrote this before the Ramazzini studies showed that aspartame is a multi-potential carcinogen even in small amounts and can be passed on to the offspring. If it were arsenic in question here, there would be no questions. In reality, Dr. Blaylock said in a lecture, "Understand the reactions to aspartame are not allergic but toxic like arsenic and cyanide."

Consider how much is a life worth. Aspartame has destroyed families. The damage to the mitochondria and hypothalamus has triggered male sexual dysfunction and ruins female response. It's an abortifacient and teratogen (causes birth defects); millions of babies have been murdered in their mother's wombs by this poison. Birth defects such as autism are rampant, as well as ADD and ADHD triggered by aspartame.

Aspartame violates adulteration statutes, the Delaney Amendment which forbid putting anything in food that causes cancer and interstate commerce laws. Two Ramazzini Studies peer reviewed by 7 world experts prove aspartame to be a multi potential carcinogen, even in small amounts, and can be passed on to the offspring if the mother uses aspartame.

TRUTH ABOUT ASPARTAME

Brief

While working for the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, I monitored two major projects for FDA, in addition to other product investigations. These projects concerned Pesticides and Chemicals in Foods, and Illegal Drug Tissue Residues in Animals (including milk related issues). I worked closely with sister federal and state agencies, oversaw contract compliance, and was coordinator and lead investigator on projects involving FDA, EPA, and USDA.

The toxicology, histology, and biochemistry of aspartame (a.k.a.: NutraSweet, Equal, etc.) is neurotoxic. The aspartame components injure the blood-brain barrier, allowing easy passage, and will interfere with normal nerve cell function, regardless of whether one is initially symptomatic or not.

Aspartame affects brain tissue, destroying nerve cell integrity, and eventually the neurons, themselves. This leaves lesions or holes where cell death occurred. Aside from brain neurotoxicity, aspartame is known to affect the spinal column nerves, skeletal muscle-nerve junctions, and the conduction system of the heart, as well.

Aspartame is a compound of phenylalanine, aspartic acid, and methanol. The subsequent result from this interaction, and from the isolates of amino acids, is nerve cell necrosis (death), and subsequent organ system disease, along with toxic interactions with many pharmaceutical drugs.

The hypothalamus, the major controller for much of the neuro-endocrine function, is at especially high risk to these effects, and in turn, affects many other organ systems. Thus, the myriad of symptoms.

Methanol (methyl alcohol or wood alcohol) is a colorless, poisonous, and flammable liquid. It is used for making formaldehyde, acetic acid, methyl t-butyl ether (a gasoline additive), and paint strippers. This poison can be inhaled from vapors, absorbed through the skin, and ingested. (Tephly & McMartin 1984)

The methanol in aspartame breaks down into formaldehyde, and formic acid, which denaturizes and mutates the DNA, and can instigate autoimmune disease states. This is a known scientific fact.

Phenylalanine (in aspartame) is a free amino acid isolate. Studies show that excessive free phenylalanine damages nerve cells, and is responsible for phenylketonuria in pregnant females. Phenylalanine also reduces serotonin levels in the brain. This reduction in serotonin creates a host of complications. (Wurtman 1988)

Reduced serotonin levels can induce aggressive or violent behavior in adults, and temper tantrums in children. The lowered serotonin level also lowers the threshold for seizure activity, instigating petite and grand mal seizures. (Maher 1987)

The aspartic acid, in aspartame, is a known excitotoxin which easily crosses the blood-brain barrier, and is chemically similar to MSG. An excitotoxin, is a deleterious substance that excites or over stimulates nerve cells to death. (L.E.Rosenberg, McGraw-Hill 1991)

Aspartame creates altered brain function, nerve damage, and systemic organ complications. Information collected by independent research, reveals that aspartame clinically exacerbates any borderline (even yet undetected) predisposing illness, and absolutely complicates certain known medical illnesses like Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, diabetes, retinopathies, allergies, and mentation and behavior disorders, et al.

The research data uncovered aspartame’s connection regarding nerve cell mitochondria damage, and aspartame-induced brain cell hypoglycemia. Changes in peripheral circulation and nerve transmission occur. Altered systemic metabolites occur, including and the conversion of phenylalanine metabolites into destructive chemical toxins like diketopiperazine, a known carcinogen.

Tests reveal a correlation between diketopiperazine and astrocytoma (type of aggressive brain tumor). Aspartame is unique in this hazardous respect. Aspartame is not an allergen, but rather, a true toxin.

On the political side and economic perspective, I can only say that politics was the underlying cause of this depraved indifference toward human life, and is exhibited by the FDA-corporate corruption, which had brought aspartame to our tables.

No political or profit based motive should ever replace common sense and the responsibility of preserving the public health…EVER. Although, there is no question as to aspartame's lethality and instigation of morbidity, ANY question of food safety should ALWAYS be ruled in favor of public health, until disinterested, third party investigations can be initiated.

From this, it would be apparent, and can be documented, that companies that abstain from using aspartame, have not suffered any financial setbacks. On the contrary: it would be both reassuring, if a company would actually produce healthy and health supporting foods to the general public. The publicity of excellent quality controls, acknowledgment of healthful foods, based on scientific and available bio-physiological evidence, would be absolutely welcomed by the consuming public. This would be especially true, if corporate or federal interference did not place the profit motive before a human being’s health needs. I believe the public requires a governmental body to support the public’s best interests and not that of corporate profit motives.

The issues of toxic food additives and their resulting destructive health effects are long term and seriously incapacitating, as earmarked by the number of disease states from the collective insults of foods, air, and water issues, all driven by profit, and distinctly indifferent to common sense health implications. Make no mistake…to rule against aspartame, is to rule in favor of public conviction and good, sound public health principles.

Early in the 2016 Primary campaign, I started a Facebook group: Bernie Sanders: Advice and Strategies to Help Him Win! As the primary season advanced, we shifted the focus to advancing Bernie's legislation in the Senate, particularly the most critical one, to protect Oak Flat, sacred to the San Carlos Apaches, in the Tonto National Forest, from John McCain's efforts to privatize this national forest and turn it over to Rio Tinto Mining, an Australian mining company whose record by comparison makes Monsanto look like altar boys, to be developed as North America's largest copper mine. This is monstrous and despicable, and yet only Bernie's Save Oak Flat Act (S2242) stands in the way of this diabolical plan.

We added "2020" to the title.

I have always been intensely involved in politics, going back to the mid's 1970's, being a volunteer lobbyist in the US Senate for the Secretary General of the United Nations, then a "snowball-in-hell" campaign for US Senate in NM in the late 70's, and for the past 20 years have worked extensively to pressure the FDA to rescind its approval for aspartame, the neurotoxic artificial sweetener metabolized as formaldehyde. This may be becoming a reality to an extent in California, which, under Proposition 65, is considering requiring a mandatory Carcinogen label on all aspartame products, although all bureaucracies seem to stall under any kind of corporate pressure.


Bills to ban aspartame were in the State Senates of New Mexico and Hawaii, but were shut down by corporate lobbyists (particularly Monsanto lobbyists in Hawaii and Coca Cola lobbyists in New Mexico).


For several years, I was the editor of New Mexico Sun News, and my letters to the editor and op/eds in 2016 have appeared in NM, California, Wisconsin, New York, Maryland, the Christian Science Monitor, USA Today, and many international papers, on the subject of consumer protection. Our best issue was 10 days before Obama won in 2008, when we published a special early edition of the paper declaring that Obama Wins! This was the top story on CNN for many hours, way back then....


My highest accomplishments thus far are

1. a plan to create a UN Secretary General's Pandemic Board of Inquiry, a plan that is in the works and might be achieved even before the 75th UN General Assembly in September 2020.


2. Now history until the needs becomes clear to the powers who run the United Nations: a UN Resolution to create a new Undersecretary General for Nutrition and Consumer Protection, strongly supported ten years ago by India and 53 cosponsoring nations, but shut down by the US Mission to the UN in 2008. These are not easy battles, any of them, and they require a great deal of political and journalistic focus. OpEdNews is the perfect place for those who have a lot to say, so much that they exceed the limiting capacities of their local and regional newspapers. Trying to go beyond the regional papers seems to require some kind of "inside" credentials, as if you had to be in a club of corporate-accepted writers, and if not, you are "from somewhere else," a sad state of corporate induced xenophobia that should have no place in America in 2020!

This should be a goal for every author with something current to say: breaking through yet another glass ceiling, and get your say said in editorial pages all over America. Certainly, this was a tool that was essentially ignored in 2016, and cannot be ignored in the big elections of 2020.
