Easy Come

By robert braunstein

Man and beast poem

::::::::

She came into my life like a stray cat

I found her in the lobby of my apartment house

Her fur stood up a little like bed head on a sleepless night

I liked her right away even though we just met

I brought her into my apartment. I offered her some milk

She lit a cigarette and purred

Like a vibrator.

I went to get the milk

I turned my back and she jumped out the window

Like a burglar caught in the act

I was glad I lived on the ground floor

I thought I saw her in the alley one rainy night

But who knows for sure
