Bush And The GOP Are Two-Faced And Dishonest In Regard John McCain

By William Cormier

When I read that Bush had stated John McCain was a "true conservative" I almost choked on my coffee! Do President Bush and the GOP believe that Americans have forgotten the 2000 Presidential elections? I haven't, and neither should you, especially in light of Bush's recent about-face in regard John McCain:

When I read that Bush had stated John McCain was a “true conservative” I almost choked on my coffee! Do President Bush and the GOP believe that Americans have forgotten the 2000 Presidential elections? I haven’t, and neither should you, especially in light of Bush’s recent about-face in regard John McCain:

Bush Calls McCain a ‘True Conservative’

By Zachary A. Goldfarb

President Bush today defended Sen. John McCain’s conservative credentials against critics within the Republican Party, calling the Arizona senator a “true conservative.”

In his most expansive comments yet on the 2008 presidential election, Bush said on “Fox News Sunday” that McCain is strong on national defense and taxes and is pro-life. “His principles are sound and solid, as far as I’m concerned,” the president said.

But Bush acknowledged that McCain has “some convincing to do to convince people that he is a solid conservative.” The president added, “I’ll be glad to help him,” should McCain win the GOP nomination. MORE

I don’t care for John McCain, however, whether I like him or not, the way that he was “swiftboated” in the 2000 Presidential elections was unconscionable and immoral, especially to a veteran that had served his country in war and spent years as a POW. Americans need to refresh their memories and go back a few years and remember what our two-faced President and the GOP said about John McCain - by and through the manipulations of Carl Rove - and others, who were acting under the supervision of Bush and Cheney:

“What Bush did to McCain in the 2000 S. C. primary”

FACT SHEET: (Excerpts)

Bush Waged Nasty Smear Campaign Against McCain in 2000
Bush Supporters Called McCain “The Fag Candidate.” In South Carolina, Bush supporters circulated church fliers that labeled McCain “the fag candidate.” Columnist Frank Rich noted that the fliers were distributed “even as Bush subtly reinforced that message by indicating he wouldn’t hire openly gay people for his administration.”

McCain Slurs Included Illegitimate Children, Homosexuality And A Drug-Addict Wife.
Among the rumors circulated against McCain in 2000 in South Carolina was that his adopted Bangladeshi daughter was actually black, that McCain was both gay and cheated on his wife, and that his wife Cindy was a drug addict.”

Bush Campaign Used Code Words to Question McCain’s Temper.
“A smear campaign of the ugliest sort is now coursing through the contest for the presidency in 2000. Using the code word “temper,” a group of Senate Republicans, and at least some outriders of the George W. Bush campaign, are spreading the word that John McCain is unstable. The subtext, also suggested in this whispering campaign, is that he returned from 5 1/2 years as a POW in North Vietnam with a loose screw. And it is bruited about that he shouldn’t be entrusted with nuclear weapons.”

Bush Supporters Questioned McCain’s Sanity.

“Some of George W. Bush’s supporters have questioned Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s fitness for the White House, suggesting that his five years as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam drove him insane at the time.”

Bush Supporters Spread Racist Rumors About McCain’s Daughter.
Bush supporters in South Carolina made race-baiting phone calls saying that McCain had a “black child.” The McCains’ daughter, Bridget, was adopted from Mother Teresa’s orphanage in Bangladesh. In August 2000, columnist Maureen Dowd wrote that the McCains “are still seething about Bush supporters in South Carolina spreading word of their dark-skinned adopted daughter.”

Rove Suggests Former POW McCain Committed Treason and Fathered Child With Black Prostitute.
In 2000, McCain operatives in SC accused Rove of spreading rumors against McCain, such as “suggestions that McCain had committed treason while a prisoner of war, and had fathered a child by a black prostitute,” according to the New Yorker.

Bush Used Fringe Veterans Group to Attack McCain as “Manchurian Candidate.”
“In the case of Ted Sampley, the same guy who did Bush’s dirty work in going after Sen. John McCain in the 2000 Republican primaries is doing the job against Kerry this year. Sampley dared compare McCain, who spent five years as a Vietnam POW, with ‘the Manchurian Candidate.’”

Sampley Called McCain a “Coward” and a Traitor.

“Sampley… accused McCain of being a weak-minded coward who had escaped death by collaborating with the enemy. Sampley claimed that McCain had first been compromised by the Vietnamese, then recruited by the Soviets.”
MORE

If John McCain did capture the Presidency, one would hope that McCain would send Bush and Cheney straight to the Hague for war crimes as partial payment for smearing his name and reputation in 2000 (and of course for the crimes both have committed), but weak-kneed McCain will pander and forget anything the GOP has done in the past, all in the name of so-called “conservative values” and his chance to continue Bush’s warmongering.

The GOP is vile, disgusting, and to me, their motives are clear and simple; John McCain is seventy-one (71) years old, and if the stress of the campaign doesn’t kill him, I’m betting the rigorous routine of being President will, equating to his Vice-President ascending eventually, probably sooner than later, to the Presidency. The true conservatives can’t stand him, but if he teams-up with Huckabee, the Democrats may be in for an election that will be close and therefore easy to steal via electronic voting machines and other underhanded GOP tactics; where McCain can’t get the “conservative” vote, Huckabee would, and in my humble opinion, would eventually be our President (sic).

Remember two important points when you evaluate McCain and Huckabee; John McCain has a legendary temper that preceded the Vietnam War and the United States doesn’t need another loose cannon in the White House:

John McCain’s Temper Preceded Vietnam

Ronald Kessler
Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006

By his own account, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the front-runner for the 2008 presidential race, had trouble controlling his anger long before he was a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

Back in 1999, McCain allowed reporters from the Arizona Republic, New York Times, and The Associated Press to review 1,500 pages of his medical and psychiatric records from his service in the military.

McCain would not allow reporters to copy the records. Only a few papers ran details relating to his temper.

The documents, which include the results of annual psychiatric exams after he was released from a North Vietnamese prison in 1973, indicate McCain was not diagnosed with any psychiatric disorder and had adjusted well to his ordeal. McCain’s imprisonment began in October 1967 when he was shot down over Hanoi. However, in response to the question, “What traits do you have that others object to?” McCain answered, “Quick temper.” MORE

If we are realistic and honest, John McCain is too damn old to be President, he still lives in the past, and like many seniors, is set in his ways and will only change course when corporate America tells him to. Mike Huckabee, on the other hand, has been endorsed by James Dobson because of Huckabee’s religious beliefs, and all of us in America have been witness to what occurs when you meld religion with politics - which is exactly why we are in the crisis we face today. Elect a Preacher to the Presidency and the United States is doomed to become a fascist theocracy, exactly what Bush and the GOP are seeking.

As you read the above facts, it’s self-evident that the GOP has nothing to offer in this election cycle except more of the same or worse, so once again, Americans are forced to choose between two Democratic candidates, one that is in bed with corporate America and the other who has no experience or track-record in crisis solving; I know that Obama is extremely popular, however, after what he did in Maine, I see another President that will protect corporate America, not the people:

Obama To Maine - ‘Drop Dead’

Blocked Emergency LIHEAP Money For Maine This Winter

AUGUSTA
— Barack Obama’s chief economics adviser Austan Goolsbee today boasted that the Obama campaign had helped to prevent emergency heating assistance for low-income families from being included in the just-approved economic stimulus package which is now on its way to President Bush’s desk for signature. An increase in federal low-income heating assistance (known as LIHEAP), Goolsbee pointed out, had been championed by Obama’s opponent, New York Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton. Goolsbee’s remarks came in an interview this morning with Carl Quintanilla of CNBC business news television.

Goolsbee stressed that the main difference between Obama and Clinton was that Obama was “more respectful of market forces.” Goolsbee was adamant that Obama was opposed to expanding the stimulus package to include “money for low-income heating assistance through a bureaucratic program.”

Goolsbee’s statements came just one day after leaders of the Maine legislature had convened in Augusta to face the dire situation of low income families who cannot afford to heat their homes this winter, partly as a result of the sky-high price of heating oil. Some influential members of the Legislature spoke of taking money from Maine’s Rainy Day reserves to help people who are running short of heating oil this winter. Supporters of the proposed move said the high price of heating oil is cutting into the size of deliveries to households receiving Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP), with many low-income families not being able to afford a full tank. This puts many Maine residents in danger of going without heat, as House Speaker Glen Cummings of Portland noted. MUCH MORE

In short, another Presidential election is at hand, and thanks to our fascist mainstream news media, there’s not a progressive candidate on the ticket, therefore, Americans can expect everything to become far worse before anything begins to get better. Go figure…

William Cormier

FOOTNOTE: I have implied that McCain will choose Huckabee as his Vice-President if nominated, and if we look at the election logically, with the momentum that Obama is building, a McCain/Huckabee ticket is the only logical choice for the GOP to try and keep a Rethuglican in the White House.

Authors Bio:

My Bio is as varied as my life. In 2012, my twin sons murdered a Journalist in Pensacola, Fl., for 100K worth of "Magic The Gathering" playing cards and buried the body in my backyard. I was once a regular writer here, but PTSD from my son's actions took their toll. First, I lost everything I had. Second, I lost my fiancee. Third, I almost lost my life. Recovery has been a hard and lonesome road, and it isn't quite over yet. I will overcome this disaster as I have others, and return to college to resume my quest to receive a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism.

Admittedly, I have chosen to get back in the mix and do my duty to help destroy any chance that Trump may have of being elected to a second term.
