Sagittarius New Moon, December 9, 2007: Pregnant with Divinity
By Cathy Pagano
An astrological commentary on the New Moon in Sagittarius on December 9, 2007.
::::::::
“Sagittarius is the prelude to Christmas. As the snow, it absorbs all littleness into the vast womb of silence from which the new birth of the Day-force [the Light] will emerge. The mind that binds all life into patterns of cosmic relationships has become a ‘mother of the Living God’. The Sagittarian has all the heroisms, the self-abnegation and the loving tyranny of mothers. S/He closes an era and opens another. S/He is pregnant with divinity.”
Dan Rudyar, “The Pulse of Life”
This New Moon in Sagittarius beckons us into the Unknown, Rudyar’s “Vast Womb of Silence.” Are you open to new horizons and new truths? How ready are you to step out of old perspectives and step into new realities? This time of year, before Winter Solstice, has always been a time of preparation for Celebration – we celebrate the rebirth of the Light out of the Darkness. Do you remember how to celebrate (to honor, to solemnize, to frequent) Life and the Light?
What does it feel like to be ‘pregnant with divinity’? This morning I had a dream. Someone tells me to look at the Pleiades. I look out a window and see a big, bright, sparkling constellation of stars shining in the blue daytime sky. It is beautiful! Later I see another constellation dissolve like fireworks, sparkles falling down to Earth.
An old paradigm (archetypal pattern) is gone and another is taking its place. From earliest times, it was believed that the big star in the Pleiades, Alcyone, was the central Sun of our Galaxy, pulling at our solar system. Are we being called to the Center? Is this what it feels like to be ‘pregnant with divinity’ – to see and acknowledge the transformations at the heart of the great Cosmic Laws?
I would say that’s a cause for Celebration!
When we come to Sagittarius in the cycle of the Year, we come to the height of Darkness, when the Day-force [the Light] is weakest. “The power that strove mightily through Libra and Scorpio to expand man’s horizon and man’s feelings is now operating almost unchallenged by the opposite trend of the Day-force, now at its lowest ebb. Collectivism overpowers individualism. Society dominates over personality; the far, over the near.” (Rudhyar, p. 86.)
Sagittarius looks to the distant connections we make, the universal laws, the big picture, the search for meaning. The Sagittarian Centaur, half-horse and half-man, shoots his arrows heavenward. A horse represents virile power, the type of power a person can control and which can help expand his range of activity. This horseman symbolizes power and the ability to use power with the conscious mind. His arrow represents direction and purpose, and it is pointed at a 45 angle to heaven, representing the maximum mobilization of energies. The big Sagittarian question is how to direct the power into the proper channels. The Earth is the source of his power, but he is not bound to it. He uses it, but it is concerned with the needs of the group. He is the servant of the community. (Rudhyar)
The New Moon, at 17º16’ Sagittarius, is conjunct Mercury (13º Sag) and close to the big Jupiter/Pluto conjunction (28º24’ Sag) and squaring Uranus (15º Pisces). Every New Moon is a new beginning, a seed time. This New Moon will be seeded by the power of this conjunction and the evolutionary energies from the Galactic Center. It also squares the degree of the September 11th solar eclipse. What did you initiate three months ago? It will be part of this New Moon, which is seeding big changes, and new and unique perspectives – declaring in the heavens a new spiritual center, available to us if we let the ‘new birth’ emerge out of the darkness.
Jupiter symbolizes humanity’s archetypal potential and the optimism and abundance that are our birthright - which can so easily turn into hubris and overindulgence when it feeds our ego, and not our Spirit. Pluto calls to us from the invisible realms, chills us with obsession and fear, then offers us the riches of his kingdom –a profound insight into what needs transformation.
On a collective level, their conjunction sparks major revelations as hypocrisies are exposed (the CIA tapes as a final straw?), fundamental assumptions are challenged (America’s government means well), and priorities are reordered (a greener Energy bill for a start). For individuals, this New Moon, and the conjunction, confronts us with our Truth – do we know why we are here? We have a chance now to listen to a higher wisdom and discover what our purpose is – how we can be servants to the community. Take time this weekend and Monday to meditate and ask for guidance from these two powerhouses. Look to see where 17º-29º Sagittarius (and any other planets it effects) falls in your chart. This is the part of your life that is in for major transformation. (If you don’t know where it is, consider having your chart done as a Christmas present to yourself. Remember, this New Moon is fertilized by the radio, microwave and electromagnetic rays streaming from the Galactic Center of the Milky Way Galaxy and empowered by the gifts of Jupiter, Lord of the Heavens and Pluto, Lord of the [Invisible] Underworld. Two days after this New Moon, these two planets will come together at the very last degree of Sagittarius for the first time since 1758, as they did in 1509, 1260 and 1023. On December 18th, the Sun and Mercury both make their annual passage over the Galactic Center, bringing us even more clarity.
On the collective level – and Sagittarius is a sign concerned with the Collective’s organizing laws and principles – all these years saw shifts and advances in religion, politics, communication and commerce. Sagittarius is big on Truth, and is the sign that governs Natural Law. We will see changes in the coming years, fueled by the visions we see now. What part will you play in the change?
Since Pluto went into Sagittarius back in 1995, its energy has reached down into the ‘underbelly’ of our educational systems, our laws, our religions, the media and most powerfully, politics - and exposed us to the Truth of these institutions. What are we going to do about it? Pluto leaves Sagittarius on January 27, 2008 for an extended stay in Capricorn – the sign of our collective culture. Pluto was last in Capricorn in the years leading up to and during the American Revolution.
The Sabian Symbol for 17 Sagittarius: “”A gloriously changing ring of golden light circles the horizon, drawing people from their houses in reverent admiration.” This symbolizes the unfolding glory of the cosmos; blossoming of cosmic consciousness; brotherhood of the spiritually illumined; dedication to promoting the new age; desire for group experience of a spiritual nature. (Seven Eardley)
Other Cosmic happenings:
December 17th – transiting lunar nodal axis shifts from Pisces/Virgo to Aquarius/Leo, where it stays until August 21, 2009. The transiting North Node represents our spiritual frontier; the South Node, what needs to be released and renovated. Leo is the sign of Individuation; Aquarius is the sign of the Group Mind. We are called to leave behind our egotistic will and add our Individuated purpose to the community. The last time the nodes where here was from May 22, 1989 to November 18, 1990. What were you doing then?
December 18th – Sun and Mercury on the Galactic Center.
Jupiter enters Capricorn, where it remains until January 5, 2009. Jupiter in Capricorn often coincides with changes in ethics and government. (Reagan and Moral Majority/1984; Watergate/1972). Check out which house contains Capricorn in your chart – this is the area that will experience expansion and opportunity this year.
December 19th – Saturn turns retrograde.
Saturn turns retrograde at 8º34’ Virgo. If you have a planet there or in any mutable sign – especially those of you with Pluto in Virgo – watch out for a complete restructuring over the coming 5 months. Saturn turns direct on May 3, 2008 at 1º Virgo.
December 20th – Sun conjoins Pluto.
The Sun will pick up on Pluto’s energy – kicking us into our power.
December 21st – 22nd – Happy Winter Solstice! The sun enters Capricorn and meets up with Mercury and Jupiter. It will be a great day.
