The Democrats are revolting!

By Dana Pico

::::::::

A couple of sites I read had the same take, from different sides of the political spectrum, on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Brian noted that the Democrats aren’t getting much that they promised done — and are shortening their workweek in which to get things done! :)

    Democrats Plan Shorter Workweek

That didn’t last long, did it?

Shortly after winning a majority last year, Democrats triumphantly declared that they would put Congress back to work, promising an “end to the two-day workweek.” And indeed, the House has clocked more time in Washington this year than in any other session since 1995, when Republicans, newly in control, sought to make a similar point.

But 10 months into the session, with their legislative agenda often in gridlock with the Bush administration and a big election year looming, the Democrats are now planning a lighter schedule when the 110th Congress begins its second year in mid-January.

The House majority leader, Representative Steny H. Hoyer of Maryland, told fellow Democrats this week that the House would not be in session next year on Fridays, except in June for work on appropriations bills.

Explaining that decision to reporters, Mr. Hoyer said, “I do intend to have more time for members to work in their districts and to be close to their families.”

What can I say? How many times are these people going to be caught in their lies, breaking their campaign promises, before people wise up? Another “See, I Told You So” from me, ladies and gentlemen. They’re piling up so fast, I’m losing track of how many times I was right about these clowns. lol

And if you want to know how deluded these guys are in Congress, check this part out:

…they blame Mr. Bush and Republicans for Congress’s low approval ratings, which they say will only help the Democrats expand their majority in 2008.

“Certainly, it has been a sprint and a marathon at the same time this year,” said Representative Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “We have accomplished a lot, especially on the domestic front.”

Their low rating is because they’ve broken virtually every campaign pledge they made. But, of course, it’s those evil Republicans fault for “obstructing” legislation (something you know the Democrats never, ever did…except they did, on a constant basis. They don’t like it when the shoe is on the other foot).

And let’s take a look at all the things they “got done” this year. Minimum wage increase, check. And…………..I think that’s pretty much it. Lovely record to run on in 2008, isn’t it?

Of course, the minimum wage increase brings the legal minimum up to somewhere around the current economic minimum; people are already getting $7.00 an hour to start at what were the traditional minimum wage employers, because that’s simply what the market required to get anybody to come to work!

From the far end of the other side of the spectrum comes Rob Kall, also complaining about what the Democrats haven’t accomplished:

Do Reid and Pelosi WANT The Occupancy of Iraq to Continue?
    by Rob Kall

Based on my research on my last article, I now conclude that Pelosi and Reid are part of the problem, that they will not stop the war if we keep doing what we’re doing.

Let me repeat that. Reid and Pelosi are part of the problem, keeping the war going. If they wanted to, they could push for support so they could go to the president and inform him that they would not bring any more bills fo funding to the house or senate floor. Either one of them could do it and it would take a majority in the house and 60 votes in the senate to over-ride.

But they’re not willing to do that. If they were, they would have done it.

While I’m at liberty to quote freely from Brian’s articles (he’s a friend), Mr Kall’s are copyrighted, so you’ll have to visit his site to read the rest. Mr Kall continued, basically saying that it’s apparent to him that the Democrats simply don’t really want to end the war.

The answer to Mr Kall’s title question is, in a word, yes!

Mr Reid and Mrs Pelosi believe that it was the war issue which gave the Democrats control of the Congress in the 2006 elections, and they would love to have the war as an issue in the 2008 elections as well; they are far more interested in that than they are in ending the war. I’ve said as much many times, and I added that comment on Mr Kall’s site.

What have the Democrats accomplished of their agenda? Brian gave them some credit for the minimum wage, but I don’t give them even that much: it was simply a recognition that the economy has passed the minimum wage law by, and did so rather a while ago. While some Republicans rightly gave them grief (we shouldn’t have a minimum wage law at all, but let the market set wages), the Democrats “accomplished” about the easiest thing on their agenda.

And while they fuss and fulminate on the SCHIP bill, I’d point out here that FY2008 has been underway for a month now, and the government is running on continuing funding resolutions, essentially having the Democrats continue the funding priorities set by the last Republican controlled Congress. :)

I’d call the Democrats in Congress useful idiots, except that useful might be too positive an adjective. The old saying is, “Lead, follow, or get out of the way.” Thus far, the Democrats have neither led nor followed, and while they are trying to get in the way, they don’t even do a good job at that!
