Time out for a moment of paranoia

By Mark A. Goldman

Traffic at my personal website has over the years steadily increased. I get statistics from my web host as to where the traffic comes from. I can't see who is coming to my site, only in what country the visitors reside. Now traffic from one country has stopped entirely. I'm wondering why.

Traffic at my personal website has over the years steadily increased.  I get statistics from my web host as to where the traffic comes from.  I can’t see who is coming to my site, only from what country the traffic originates.   Of course most of the folks visiting my site are from the US, but I also get substantial visits from citizens of other countries.  Last month, for example, I got more traffic from the Netherlands than from any other foreign country.   Every month, traffic from that country is near the top of the list.  Beginning on August 1, 2007 traffic to my website from the Netherlands stopped entirely.  Zero visitors.  It could be that the folks in the Netherlands have finally lost interest in anything I have to say, but I can’t help wondering if perhaps there’s something else going on.  I don’t have sufficient expertise to know what the implications might be, but I thought I’d share this little bit of information to see if anyone else is experiencing unexplained changes in the traffic coming to their sites.  I might also point out that up until two months ago I was getting a bit of traffic from US Military sites every month.  There was a sharp percentage increase in June, but as of last month that traffic totally stopped too.  I’ve often wondered why I get almost no mail from readers, pro or con, about my writings.  Now I’m wondering about a lot of things.
