These Crimes (Re-visited)

By James Bush

If the shoe fits.

::::::::

These Crimes...

You have climbed
Tall mountains
Crossed vast deserts
And traveled deep seas

You have fought
And vanquished
Enemies, nature
And the elements

You have built
Great railroads
Highways
And air routes

You have created
Powerful works
Of music
Painting
And literature

You have developed
Wondrous machines
Of technology
And science

You have traveled
Through outer space
Inner space
And cyber space

And yet...

Still...

You practice...

Murder
Torture
Rape
Bigotry
And theft

In the name
Of God
And freedom...

You judge
And destroy
The entire world

In the name
Of redemption
And security...

You lie
Cheat
And deceive

In the name
Of defense...

You attack

In the name
Of heaven...

You attack

In the name
Of righteousness...

You attack

In the name
Of the good life...

You suck life dry

In the name
Of saving humanity...

You send it
To hell

But...

Worst of all

In the name of wealth...

You seek
To deprive
'The least of these'
Of their
Life
Liberty
And happiness

And...

As sure...

As the sun rises
The moon sets
And the tides turn

These Crimes...

Will
Not
Be
Forgiven
