An Open Letter to President Bush

By Dave Peter

My letter asking Bush and Cheney to resign

::::::::

Mr. President,

First let me say I am a veteran of twenty-two years in the USAF and I served overseas including Southeast Asia during the Vietnam era.  I am also the stepfather of an active soldier who served one tour in the war zone.

I am asking you to resign as president since you have led (through misleading statements and outright lies) America into a never-ending war in Iraq against mainly Iraqis who do not want to be occupied by a foreign country intent on stealing their natural resources (oil).

The occupation of Iraq makes America more of a target for the terrorists that you so greatly fear.  Your foreign policy has created more terrorists who hate America by fulfilling Middle Eastern fears that America wants to steal the oil resources from their countries. I believe you are afraid to stand in front of a group of Americans who are not military or part of right-wing PACs when you give your war mongering speeches.

Your comparison of the occupation of Iraq by American forces to the Revolutionary War is correct except, in this war, America is playing the part of the British with its own King George. You bring dishonor to the country and the memory of our forefathers who fought for civil rights and freedoms which your administration continues to infringe and take away.  I can’t imagine Thomas Jefferson condoning maintaining intelligence databases on American citizens who speak out against the tyranny of your administration.

You and your master, Vice President Cheney, believe you are above the law as demonstrated through your use of executive privilege to hide records of how you fired U.S. attorneys based on their political views and to commute the sentence of a convicted criminal, Scooter Libby, on the vice president’s staff.

Your Vice President believes he is a fourth level of government not defined by the U.S. Constitution.  The arrogance of your administration is truly amazing.  You take away the rights of Americans and give more super rights to those in your administration.  You keep moving closer and closer to turning America into a fascist state ruled by a dictatorial oligarchy. Therefore, for the good of the country I ask that you and Vice President Cheney remove yourselves from the office that neither of you deserve.

Authors Bio:
I am a veteran, retired with 22 years of service in the USAF as a Signals Intelligence Analyst and retired from 13 and a half years as an employee of Clark County Nevada in 2009 where I was a child support case manager and trainer. During my employment with Clark County I was a union steward and trustee with SEIU Local 1107. I took a full time position with SEIU Local 1107 in Feb 2009 as the training coordinator and special projects and am retiring from this position at the end of June 2012.
I am active in the anti war movment in Las Vegas and have been since the beginning of the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan. My step son is an active duty soldier who has served in Afghanistan and Iraq. I have helped organize anti war demostrations in Las Vegas and been the media spokesperson for one of the anti war groups i have belonged to here. I am an active member of Veterans for Peace, Nevada Workers Against the War, and other anti war pro labor groups in Las Vegas.

I became involved with Occupy Las Vegas in the summer of 2011 and watched it fall apart due to political agendas of different splinter groups. I was arrested for an act of civil disobedience with Occupy Las Vegas on November 17, 2011 in the day of action.

I have become totally disillusioned with the democrats and changed my voter registration to Socialist in 2010. I will activity support the Nevada Desert Experience upon my retirement and participate in their anti nuke and anti war actions.

I am a third generation union member orginally coming from the thriving steel town of Steubenville, Ohio, which has declined with the downfall of heavy industry in America. I strongly support organized labor and believe unions need to change their focus from blind support for democrats to creating a new workers party to really support the economic, political, and social well being of the working class, working poor, poor and elderly.
