Alone, Together

By James Bush

On travel and destinations.

::::::::

We walk this path alone, together
We stand on this hilltop alone, together
We flip-out of this world alone, together
We turn inside-out alone, together

As we fill this skin
As we walk this body around
As we make angles with our limbs
As we shrug off this mortal overcoat

We run this road alone, together
We dip below the radar alone, together
We slip in and out of sight alone, together
We roll down this mountain alone, together

As we shed a million tears
As we shrink into final insignificance
As we pop like a kernel of golden corn
As we twist out of the grip of unending space

We grab ourselves by the throat alone, together
We throw ourselves to the ground alone, together
We wriggle around in the mud alone, together
We slip beneath the surface alone, together

As we learn to surrender up everything
As we learn to feel compassion for everything
As we learn to begin to love and cherish everything
As we learn to blend in to the full fabric of everything

We walk this path alone, together
