Under the Bush Administration, privatization of government services has proceeded rapidly. The volume of outsourced government work has doubled in five years. Far more people work as contractors to the government than work for the government, and the cost of outsourced work far exceeds the cost of performing the same tasks with government employees. "The taxpayer is being taken to the cleaners," said Henry Waxman.
