Fixing Tennessee's voting problems -- you can help > > The following is an invitation to an important meeting to be held in Nashville tomorrow evening regarding the integrity of our voting process and what we must do to protect and preserve it. Tennessee was in the national news this past election day for widespread voting problems, including long lines, lost registrations, voting machine "glitches" and many other problems. Two counties -- Hawkins and Greene -- had an almost universal failure of thier new voting equipment and, in Nashville, people had to wait as long as six hours to be able to vote because of the inefficiency and unreliability of the new voting equipment foisted on us by election officials who should know better (but strangely do not). > > On Tuesday, a meeting will be held in east Nashville (where the longest lines occurred) to discuss problems with our current voting systems, and what we can do to fix them. If you experienced problems and/or want to show your support for free, fair and verifiable elections, please attend the meeting. If you can't come but you want to weigh in with problems you experience or which were reported in your own area (even if you are not from Tennessee), please take a few minutes to write up your experience and email it to Holly Quick (hollyv7@juno.com) and Martha Wetteman (jpowers8916@charter.net). Your experiences will be read into the record at this important meeting. > > Hope to see you there!! Now here are the details about Tuesday's meeting: > ------- > Your Stories Needed - Election Day November 2006 > > Despite the tireless work of voting rights advocates and the good intentions > of local election officials, the November 7, 2006 election in Nashville had > many serious problems.
