On Friday Israel attacked nuclear and military sites in Iran
By Dave Lefcourt
On Friday June 13th Israel attacked nuclear & military sites in Iran. Israeli PM Netanyahu claimed the strikes were meant to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. Massive protests erupted in Iran demanding retaliation against Israel. Lest we forget Iran has highly accurate ballistic missiles which it sent destroying a US military base in Iraq in 2020. This in retaliation of the US assassination of an Iranian General.

Aftermath of Israeli strikes on Iran June 13, 2025
Overnight on Friday the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) attacked nuclear and military sites in Iran. [1]
Those killed include Iran Revolutionary Guard Commander (IRGC) Hossein Salami, Deputy Chief of Staff Gholam Ali Rashid, Major General Mohammad Bagheri as well as two nuclear scientists.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed the strikes were intended to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.
On multiple occasions Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has said it would be un-Islamic for Iran to develop a nuclear weapon. Of course his words have been dismissed out of hand by the US and Israel.
However Khamenei in light of Israel's latest attack said they "should expect severe punishment".
President Trump told Fox News "he knew of the planned strikes in advance yet stressed the US was not involved militarily". He also said "the US will defend itself and Israel if Iran retaliates".
Massive protests erupted nationwide in Iran demanding retaliation against Israel.
There have been reports Iran has sent 100 drones and missiles toward Israel in retaliation. Though "The Times of Israel has reported Israeli fighter jets shot down the drones as they approached the countries border and the Israeli Air Force claimed it destroyed Iranian missiles aimed at Israel.
The Israeli attacks have come after 5 rounds of talks between US and Iranian negotiators have met in Muscat, Oman with a 6th scheduled for Saturday, June 14th. In light of the attacks they'll likely be cancelled.
Iran has accused the US of collaborating with Israel on the attacks which could mean US military facilities all over the Middle East could be targeted by Iran in retaliation.
Here is some of the latest updates:
A senior Israeli official has told the Wall Street Journal Israel's attacks are "nowhere near over" that West Jerusalem has planned for the operation to span 14 days".
Trump has praised the Israeli strikes on Iran as "excellent" and signaled new attacks are likely in the offing. There's more to come. A lot more". What Trump is saying he was in on what Israel initiated and knows what they're about to do in the coming days.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned, "the Islamic Republic would deliver a "powerful" response that would make its adversaries "regret" their actions." In his address to the Iranian nation he called on Iranian's to remain united and support thr government amid rising regional tensions".
In light of these developments along with additional attacks by the IDF according to the Israeli official mentioned above, Iran will surely retaliate further.
Lest we forget Iran demonstrated in 2020 in retaliation for the Trump authorized assassination of Iranian General Soleimani outside the Baghdad airport on January 3, 2020 Iran attacked a US military base in Iraq with 11 highly accurate ballistic missiles. The Iranian's gave advanced warning to the Iraqi government of its intentions and though no US military died in the precision missile strikes more than 100 were wounded suffering concussion injuries.
In all likelihood Iran won't be giving advanced warning of its intentions to send its accurate missiles against its adversaries.
The potential for this situation escalating with additional Israeli strikes and Iran retaliating with its accurate missiles could be a catastrophe with worldwide implications.
Iran could block the Strait of Hormuz preventing oil shipping from traversing the Persian Gulf. This could create havoc in the oil industry where 20 to 30% of the world's oil passes through.
A worldwide economic dislocation would likely occur.
Let's put it this way. It's hard to be optimistic considering the ramifications of this situation possibly getting completely out of hand.
