Ukraine has started to use cluster munitions targeting a region in Russia. Early this month the US authorized the delivery of these weapons to Ukraine. Earlier this week Ukraine sent a drone strike targeting the Crimean Bridge damaging a section of the roadway. Maybe the Ukrainian's have changed tactics as its counter-offensive has stalled and decided to attack Russian regions with longer range munitions.

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan announcing US to supply cluster bombs to Ukraine

According to a report, "Ukraine has targeted a village in Russia's Belgorod region with cluster munitions." [1]

The governor of the region wrote early Saturday, "three cluster munitions were employed by the Kiev forces during a large-scale attack on the settlement" along with "21 artillery shells and ten mortar rounds as well as a single kamikaze drone."

He said there were no casualties although "smaller artillery, mortar and drone attacks targeted at least a dozen other settlements in the Belgorod region the same day".

Early this month the US authorized the delivery of cluster munitions to Ukraine.

Meanwhile "a Ukrainian drone strike has resulted in an explosion at an ammunition depot in the central part of Crimean peninsula [2] according to the local governor. No casualties were reported though the nearby population was evacuated to a safer location.

Earlier this week the Ukrainian's used a drone strike on the Crimean Bridge damaging a section of the roadway killing a married couple and injuring their daughter.

As we know, according to multiple reports in the US media, the long awaited Ukrainian counter-offensive begun in early June has not advanced during multiple attacks on Russian military positions.

These reports indicate Ukraine has lost thousands of troops, tanks and other heavy armor destroyed during the counter-offensive.

Maybe the Ukrainian's have changed tactics as the counter-offensive has stalled and decided to attack Russian regions with longer range munitions.

Kiev is still demanding the US send F-16 fighter jets to counter Russia's air superiority. However, there's been much dissembling from US officials with conflicting reports the delivery of the jets will be delayed or sent by allies from their surplus supply. It's hard to decipher what the actual plan is.

In another development Russia has announced all ships heading to Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea will be considered hostile favoring Ukraine and be prevented from entering those ports.

Russia also seems intent on retaliating against Ukraine for attacks on Russian settlements and its facilities.

A few things seem clear at this point:

Multiple plans have been put forth to end the war from Turkey, China, African leaders led by South Africa have met separately with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine President Zelensky all to no avail.

Zelensky has said he will not negotiate while Putin remains in power. He also calls for Russia to cede back to Ukraine all territory it currently holds including Crimea, Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions. Russia considers this unrealistic as all these regions are now part of the Russian Federation and will not be a part of any negotiations ending the war.

The US seems intent on continuing to supply Ukraine with weaponry.

The Russian's seem intent to continue its special military operation in Ukraine indefinitely.

Thus the war will continue with no end in sight.

Call it a stalemate, an impasse, what have you?

The US has a presidential election next year and the primary season starts in January. One way or another Ukraine will be an issue on the agenda in those primaries.

The American people could have a say in bringing the war in Ukraine to an end.
