Memorial Day Weekend 2023 (A Poem)
By John Hawkins
Time to gather the horses, dust the roses, strike the poses, decide the courses. And remember all over again.

Memorial Day 2023
by John Kendall Hawkins
.
In Tarantino's
Inglourious Basterds
the alternate history frame
about film-making and films made
in the best scene of all time
Hitler gets machine-gunned
in the face, over and over
by jew boy Donny Donowitz
his teeth gnashing, eyes fire
Never Again and then some
who didn't feel the free flowing glee?
catharsis in the yinyang tea?
as Hymie went to town
went all Götterdämmerung
on mighty whitey's
mustachioed sss-mug
Sieg heil this, mofo
a river deechy!
eins zwei drei fear funf
he counts the shots
one bullet for each million slaughtered
clenching teeth
.
This Memorial Day Season
remember well
what's been forgotten again
and reload in the dark
of the projection milieu
This time we'll have to empty
450 million chambers
into Big Face
squeezed against the ice rink glass
as by some Terry O'Reilly
squeezing
squeezing
