Yesterday two US military Apache helicopters crashed in Alaska during a training session. Another crashed in February

By Dave Lefcourt

Yesterday two US military Apache helicopters crashed in Alaska during a training session. Another Apache also crashed in Alaska in February. In March two Blackhawk military copters collided near Ft. Campbell, KY killing 9 soldiers. Why are these military helicopter mishaps occurring during training sessions? These are hardly missions in a war zone much less in war games.

Apache military helicopters that crashed in Alaska yesterday

According to a report, late yesterday two US military Apache helicopters crashed in Alaska during a training mission. [1] An investigation into the incident has begun.

Apparently there was another Apache helicopter crash in Alaska in February. While in March two Blackhawk military helicopters collided near Fort Campbell, Kentucky killing nine soldiers. The cause of that incident is still under investigation.

The Apache is manufactured by Boeing and the Blackhawk by Sikorsky a Lockheed Martin company.

So why are all these military helicopter mishaps occurring during training sessions? These are hardly missions in a war zone much less in war games.

These investigations are ongoing so it would be pure speculation as to the causes of the crashes.

But one has to wonder whether these were experienced helicopter pilots at the helm or were they inexperienced? In either case were they trained properly? Then of course whether there were mechanical issues with the copters?

These were not the first instances of US military aircraft crashing during training missions.

The notorious F-35 fighter jet also built by Lockheed Martin has had crashes in non warfare situations. I remember reading about the plane having difficulty flying in bad weather. That there were issues of paint peeling on the outer surfaces of the plane. The cost estimate of this boondoggle is supposedly one and a half $trillion dollars over 10 years.

One would think these issues would have been addressed and ironed out considering the enormous costs involved.

Remember Boeing was notoriously the manufacturer of the 737 MAX commercial jet that had two crashes killing some 346 people a few years ago. One flight from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia crashing soon after take-off. The other in Indonesia with the plane crashing into the Java Sea.

Is it unfair to blame these manufacturers for the quality of the aircraft they build and the resulting crashes of those aircraft?

Certainly their quality controls have to be questioned. Shouldn't we expect the Congress to have its own investigation since they are ones authorizing the expenditure each year to the Defense Department's weapons manufacturers that receive the governments' outlays.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that score since most of the Congressional politicos campaigns are underwritten by the weapons manufacturers which have facilities in all 50 states where the weapons are produced. And no politico in these jurisdictions is going to be against taking jobs away from their constituents.

One wonders whether these manufacturers really care about the quality of their aircraft or are they just interested in receiving the billions in largesse they get each year?

Is that an unfair assumption questioning the integrity of the weapons manufacturers? Maybe. It certainly is legitimate to question the integrity of most of our politicos whose corruption may not be recognized as such by SCOTUS but doesn't go unnoticed by many (most?) of the American people, left or right.

What's sad is the American political system is so rigidly entrenched it's hard to imagine any real investigation taking place over anything of consequence much less military helicopters crashing in training sessions to say anything about the billions in cost overruns of the F-35.
