Coronavirus: The Pain in Spain is Raining on the Brain

By Philip Kraske

Don't believe what they're telling you about Spain. Here it's total chaos: people running in the streets, robbing toilet paper, lynching politicians and looting banks.

Here in Madrid it's complete panic for most,
(Except for those who've slipped off to the coast),
Folks robbing folks of the T-paper they carry,
Flourishing big knives and acting quite scary,
Others tear their clothes and gibberish bark:
And this from guys who'd never shown that much spark.
.
You heard it from me, don't believe what you're told,
Crowds fill the streets and public order's on hold,
The police fight gangs who are robbing face masks,
No time to give tickets or regular tasks,
So drivers do ninety on all the main drags,
Recording videos for all-to-hear brags.
.
Oh, it's chaos and more, it's total breakdown,
It's Alien and Chuckie going to town,
The supermarkets are empty even of shelves,
My neighbors, wife and I took three for ourselves,
Molotovs are moving: five euros for nine,
With free delivery on Amazon Prime.
.
Al Qaeda consultants are making a killing,
Ten percent down and sixty-day billing,
LPGs, IEDs are the plan they're giving,
Translating which is how I make a living,
Not as good as back when I taught the King's speech,
But, well, just surviving is up to us each.
.
Still, I'm not sure this bad streak's gonna last,
Since when lots of people get C-virus past,
And tell all their friends it wasn't a big deal,
But ten sunny days did it from them steal,
We might settle down and to ourselves resign
To living with 'flu without rape and rapine.
