Dear Leader is Above the Law

By John Pagoda

What it looks like when a cover up acquittal gives a demagogue license to make the rule of law disappear.

::::::::

Last week Donald Trump implied Senator Romney was a traitor for keeping his oath to the Constitution and having the audacity to put country above party and Trump. The Republican Party propaganda network called Romney a disgrace and hate radio regurgitated the toxic narrative to a hungry for hate cult. The sycophants in the Senate abrogated their responsibility of congressional oversight by violating their oath to the same Constitution and were silent on the subject of someone who had the courage to say no man is above the law.

By the end of the week the former reality TV game show host pretending to be president fired a decorated veteran who was willing to make the supreme sacrifice for his country because a five time draft dodging commander-in-chief and compulsive liar claimed Lt Col Vindman was insubordinate providing his base with a comfortable lie while the uncomfortable truth was that Vindman was following the law when he honored a legal subpoena and testified to the truth under oath.

We must accept the reality that we now live in a country where the rule of law has now been replaced by a banana republic with a petty, vindictive Dear Leader where facts are replaced with alternative facts and the truth no longer matters. We must also accept the fact that voting only legitimizes an illegitimate form government which will not stop the jack boot of fascism from crushing a country divided by a delusional demagogue.

Authors Bio:

I am a fellow traveler passing through this existence trying to stay sane in an insane society while stopping to smell the roses and the garbage as well.

I've been a political activist since 1968 when my active duty military experience compelled my opposition to the Vietnam War, American imperialism abroad and American fascism at home. I've been arrested for my activism most notably in 2004 when I demonstrated against the coronation of a war criminal during the Republican National Convention in NYC.

My views are influenced by eastern philosophy i.e. Buddhism as a way of life rather than a religion, the socialism of Marx and existentialist writers Nietzsche, Camus and Sartre et al.

Along the way I've concluded that we live a life that requires a new way of living. At 73 I remain Billy Joel's angry young man in search of that new way of living.
