Space Heating & Synchronicity

By Fred Gransville

I am obsessed with saving energy and making sure my house doesn't burn down. I stopped using my fireplace and discourage anyone from lighting candles in the house. I have space heaters all through the house, so I don't have to use my central energy inefficient heating unit.

I am Fred Gransville, looking for OpEdNewsers who believe there is a metaphysical energy in the Universe that produces meaningful coincidences. Carl Jung's force of synchronicity, Unus mundus, is the theory that there is an underlying order and structure to reality: a network that connects everything and everyone.

MARCH 28, 2018 eheat recalled 35,000 Envi high-efficiency electric panel wall heaters sold online and through some specialty retailers from July 2015 through August 2016.

You are probably wondering why I am writing about the eheat recall instead of Hunter.

I am obsessed with saving energy and making sure my house doesn't burn down. I stopped using my fireplace and discourage anyone from lighting candles in the house.

I have space heaters all through the house, so I don't have to use my central energy inefficient heating unit. The eheat model HH1012T heaters were recalled due to "improper wire crimping by the manufacturer that can cause the unit to overheat, smoke, or melt, posing a burn hazard to consumers."

I bought two of the HH1012T heaters, identified in the recall, sometime in 2015. I installed one and have been using it for the last 4 years. The other one I opened intending to install it but then decided it wasn't needed at the time.

My house is full of guests for the holidays so I went to install the other HH1012T but couldn't find the wall mounting fasteners. The heater won't turn on unless it is mounted on a wall with the factory provided fasteners.

I went to the internet and Google searched for "envi wall mounted heaters," so I could order replacement fasteners.

Notice the results below and how far down the Mar 15, 2018 recall result is on the page.

There is nothing about the recall so I contacted eheat customer service and asked them how was I supposed to know the units were defective. They told me that I should have received the email below:

Your Envi heater may be a part of a limited recall that was recently initiated. A small number of Envi heaters sold between July 2015 and August 2016 may be affected and will require repair. We voluntarily initiated this recall in cooperation with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, which allows for any affected customers to have their heater repaired free of charge including shipping. Please click on this link to register your heater for repair .recallrtr.com/wallheater

I never received the email so one or all of the following had to happen for me to avoid the potential of one of my units overheating and burning my house down.

1. The mounting hooks went missing.

2. I noticed the recall at the bottom of the search results.

3. The heater I installed wasn't included in the recall.

I bought both heaters at the same time but when I went to the website and entered the serial numbers only one of the heaters was subject to the recall. You probably already guessed it was the one that was never installed.

Remember the factory provided hooks that I couldn't find. I found them right after I completed the online recall application.
