Independent, Brian Moore, is somewhat of a Don Quixote, and not unlike the middle-aged gentleman from La Mancha, who was obsessed with chivalrous ideals who takes up his lance and sword to defend the helpless and destroy the wicked, Brian Moore has a rich history of raising his voice and fighting against invincible odds.

In Florida, the senatorial candidates of the two parties are as old hat as the parties' themselves: Bill Nelson the Republican clothed in Democratic garb and the Republi-can, Katherine Harris, re-clothed, re-done, polished, coiffed and savvy.

Then, there's the odd-man out, the feisty, angry, passionate Independent, Brian Moore. He's the only candidate who speaks what he feels without consideration of the consequences. Perhaps it's because without the multi-million dollars of his op-ponents affording him the same high-priced advisors and PR firms, and an allegiance to a "party", he has nothing to lose, no one to answer to, and only the electorate to voice his opinions to and convince that he is the candidate they should chose.

So, he talks from the hip: straight out, firm, fast, and he lets the words fall where they might. But don't be mislead, he's nobodies' fool. He's highly educated with a Master's Degree in Public Administration and a graduate from the Franciscan Theological Seminary in 1967. He's managed to earn success in business with nearly 20-years as an Executive Director in the HMO/Managed Care field.

He believes in the power of virtue and morality and the righteousness of acting on his strong belief system and that every voice and every person can make a difference.

He went to Panama, Peru, and Ecuador when he knew that offering his expertise could make a difference. He managed, developed and implemented projects to improve their housing, water, electricity and sewage.

The same was true when, for five-years he designed and implemented programs in Brazil, Guatemala, Columbia, Dominican Republic and Mexico in the public health arena. With great pride, Mr. Moore exclaims, "The projects were responsible for de-worming over one-million low-income children."

But, it's politics that grips his soul. In a race of almost incomprehensible odds, he remains a believer in fighting for what is right and righting wrongs. His decision to make a run for the Senatorial seat was a decision of the heart.

According to Brian Moore, "As a conscientious citizen, my decision to seek the senate seat was one I could not ignore. Sitting on the sidelines complaining and unable to make a difference was not an option for me. So, I met voters, petitioned fifty-four people to help me raise the fee and got my name on the ballot. And lo and behold along the way, the Green Party endorsed me."

Unlike his polished opponents, Mr. Moore tells it like it is. He was against the invasion of Iraq and remains steadfast in his proclamation that attacking Iraq would not make us safer, but would put America and its citizens at greater risk. Three-years into this war and the evidence is that he was right.

He calls for the impeachment of President George W. Bush and his entire administration.

His opponents believe in and support the Patriot Acts; he would repeal much of them. He'd call for the immediate withdrawal of our enlisted men and women and American reconstruction putting in place a United Nations and international contingency force of 200,000 soldiers and reconstruction authority.

He says he'd put an end to deficit spending, importing American workers jobs, and he'd fight for the withdrawal from NAFTA, GATT, CAFTA and WTO. He'll work towards a fair and livable working wage for all citizens. He contends that a fair wage will enable the American workforce to be employed where immigrants had formerly because of lower wages and no benefits.

Furthermore, Mr. Moore suggests that the establishment of a Marshall Plan for Latin America and other third and forth world economies will enable citizens of those countries to remain gainfully employed in their own country, while simultaneously improving our diplomatic relations with the world.

When it comes to the new Medicare Part D program, he argues that it benefits HMO's, pharmaceutical companies, hospitals and medical providers, while over-burdening the seniors and disabled community it was intended to help. Instead, he advocates a Universal Health Care for all Americans, through a single payer system.

Brian Moore argues that "the root cause of illegal immigration is caused by the US Government economic policies that undercut foreign countries causing major social problems". He denounces Senator Nelson and Katherine Harris's agreement of erecting walls securing our borders as "punitive, desperate, inefficient and costly measures that only imprison ourselves and do not get to the real heart of the problem.

"This 'Southern Border' mindset, or Bush's wall, reminds me of Stalin and Russia's infamous Berlin Wall. This is vestiges of police-state governments whose actions smack of a militaristic, heavy-handed, defensive mentality rather than of a civilized and cultured nation who should be using its education, creativity and practical solutions to a very complex problem."

He favors campaign finance reform, term limits, and addressing corporate and congressional corruption. He also opposes "President Bush's permanent tax reductions, tax benefits for the wealthy at the expense of the middle and lower classes". In fact, he favors no new taxes.

He would fight to reduce the "Defense Budget by eliminating unnecessary and exorbitant high tech weapons". Yet he supports a better paid and prepared active military. He advocates retaining the National Guard and military reserve for home-land security and increasing services for our veterans.

Environmentally, Mr. Moore calls for an emphasis on preserving, protecting, distributing, allocating, as well as, the retention and conversion of our water. He believes in preserving our natural resources and protecting our environment.

He supports affordable housing, the prevention of media monopolies, higher teacher salaries, an improved educational system, removing the embargo on Cuba and removing the "favored status" provided Cuban refugees.

Additionally, he calls for the "reduction of corporate control of American companies and their control over our government and citizens". He argues for "better pensions, health care, higher salaries, better safety conditions, environmental protections, legal rights, union protections and full benefits" for American workers.

Brian Moore, the Independent candidate for U.S. Senate is a man of high principles, great passion, strong will, and he is determined to make a difference to the citizens of Florida. His battle will not be an easy one. His financial base pales when com-pared to the many millions of his opponents. He has to fight to be heard – and in the two scheduled agreed upon debates are between the Democratic and Republican candidates only.

Somehow, it appears the loser is the citizenry. It is unfair that the views of all of the candidates – for this office – or any office – are withheld from the voters. It is the reason I chose to write this piece.

I interviewed Brian Moore for my television show. (I also interviewed Katherine Harris; Sen. Nelson has yet to make himself available.) I found Brian Moore to be a man of great consciousness who has an innate understanding of the issues, of the concerns of the people, and who is motivated by his Don Quixote desire to right wrongs and uplift and secure his fellow human beings. It disturbs me greatly that his views are being ignored by the media and his opponents.

In my estimation, eliminating his voice from the electorate is an atrocity of our system. Our forefathers would denounce this action as uncivilized and unacceptable... and so should we.
