Summer Nights

By gk thomas

A remembrance of things past, of a lost time that can never be found again

::::::::

I remember

when death

was only a dream

and there was no snow

lying on a beach

with some

warm soft

summer girl

and a star-filled sky

cigarettes and booze

a commercial-free

cassette

playing

something

soft and smooth

Tomorrow was another

place

out of town

there was no race

no bitter sounds

there was only peace and

soft lips

and thighs

and warm

summer nights

no loss

no fights

and all was quiet

within the warm

summer breeze

to lie upon.

But that was long ago

I still

hear the voices

the laughter

coming to me

down through time

on an ice-age breeze

but only a dream

and no way home
