The Real Trump Card
By Bear Kosik
Donald Trump is doing what his supporters want. He is doing this purposefully to demonstrate that his supporters are way off base.
::::::::
Given that I was 100-percent correct in my analysis on September 10, 2015 regarding Donald Trump's future, I'm just cocky enough to predict what will happen in the next several months based on what President Trump has been doing since the election.
Trump has been leading in a manner that the anti-government, bigoted base of the GOP has been asking for since Ronald Reagan. As I said eighteen months ago, Trump is well aware of who his supporters are and what they want. That does not mean that Trump agrees with what they want. His job is solely to provide them with what they have been demanding for thirty years from the White House. He is doing an excellent job based on that measure.
Trump has demonstrated petulance, naivete', and insouciance in spades. He is working hard at appearing to be the bull in the china shop. The world is on tenterhooks waiting to see what he will knock over next. And the effect is that his supporters become more and more frenzied with joy and his opponents become more and more frenzied with grief with each passing day.
Trump's arrogance, ignorance, and malfeasance have been on show 24/7. The enormity of his transgressions flood social media and news media. But for all the idiocies and audacities, the people who voted for him remain on his side. The GOP Establishment is even trying to defend him now, having given up on the false hope he would bring himself down. The Republicans are accepting the Trump brand, because, as I said eighteen months ago, they have no alternative. Their obstructionist, defiant, prejudiced positions while Barack Obama was President mean they cannot do anything but prop up Trump.
Trump has nominated a slew of inappropriate, dreadful people for senior positions in his administration. Pretty much every single nominee is a poster child for what common sense and reason (which are two completely different things) say ought not to be the nominee for any given position. For example, Trump tapped Ben Carson to be his Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Dr. Carson's sole qualification is the color of his skin matches the skin of majorities in many large cities in the USA. That nomination spells out what Trump supporters believe affirmative action is.
Trump's opponents still cannot come to grips with the fact that he has so many supporters. They keep asking "what is wrong with people?" No effort is made to actually engage Trump supporters in discussions. They are lost causes. The Democratic Party, as illustrated by Nancy Pelosi, continues to reject Bernie Sanders supporters. Yet, as Sanders has admitted, some of his supporters voted for Trump precisely because he was the other protest candidate. I said eighteen months ago that would happen if Clinton was the nominee.
A majority of people are going to continue to rail against Trump and decry his every action. A minority of people will continue to bathe in the glory of victory. He will provide ample reasons for both groups to do those things. It was quite clear eighteen months ago that the only thing that could stop Trump was the nomination of Sanders by the Democrats. That did not happen.
The new Trump card is quite simple. At some point, Trump will get tired of the workload and conclude he has made his point remarkably well. He will claim he tried to fix America and make it great again according to what his supporters, the GOP base, wanted. He will tell his supporters they got what they asked for, but what they asked for was insane. And he will step down, paving the way for a resurgent progressive movement to rally people around grass roots campaigns in 2018 and 2020 to put the USA on the course to a more socially conscious path. Perhaps then, people will take seriously what I said eighteen months ago, that Trump has been trying to make a point about how bad the American political sphere has become in the absence of vigorous participation by the citizens of this democratic republic.
