Let's Party Before Moving On To Nevada and South Carolina

Based on 93% of results, Granite State voters gave Bernie a 22-point -- 60% to 38% -- victory over Hillary. These exit polls show where he won with NH voters:

Men 66% for Sanders to 32% for Clinton

Women 55% for Sanders to 44% " "

18 -- 29 83% for Sanders to 16% " "

30 -- 44 66% for Sanders to 32% " "

45 -- 64 53% for Sanders to 45% " "

65 on up 44% for Sanders to 55% " "

On being trustworthy and honest, Bernie won with a 95% to 3% margin. But Hillary won on the leadership and personal-qualities question -- 44% to 54%. She also prevailed by large margins on winning in November and having the right experience.

The only income category that she won was with those who made $200,000 or more per year. (NYT 2/10/16)

A Side Note

Rather than waiting in a hotel room to give his victory speech, Bernie went to the gym! Since his campaign booked the gymnasium at Concord High and curtained off a portion for supporters to gather, Bernie played some basketball with Levi and a son-in-law as well as grandchildren. Bernie had an excellent little jump shot that he used to pop in seven or eight straight.

Money Matters

Another shockarooney from the Sanders campaign: Bernie hauled in $20 million in January 2016. Okay... Clinton only raised $15 million. Did we ever imagine that Bill Clinton would be complaining, "Hillary is being outraised and outspent." As a faux supporter, I have been bombarded now for weeks for a $1 contribution to her campaign. Gotta reduce that average donation figure somehow. Maybe she went overboard and too many people took her seriously.

From the HuffPollster: During the last quarter of 2015, Clinton spent $720,000 on polling. Suddenly, after virtually no previously outlay for polling, Sanders spent more than $500,000 during that same period.

Should Hillary be a "Must Vote" for Women?

If Hillary Clinton became president, breaking this glass ceiling would be a big first for women. No question about it. The problem is that many feel that Sanders is fighting for them with his progressive agenda.

On Friday evening, feminist Gloria Steinem thought that young women are supporting Sanders because "that is where the boys are. "Adding insult to injury, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright ended a Saturday interview about women climbing the ladder by saying, "There's a special place in hell for women who don't help each other." Canvassing for Bernie in NH

This interesting article reveals that the phone-banking efforts that Sanders and Progressive Democrats of America have been conducting are very inefficient. For example, out of 250,000 phone calls made recently, only 11,000 were completed. Many people no longer answer their phones. Making contact with younger voters who don't know what a landline looks like resulted in even lower numbers.

Anxious to make contact with a portion of the NH electorate, organizers began sending canvassers to small towns where heretofore no one had ever gone. Homeowners called into four police departments to notify them that a stranger was at their door. A sad commentary on present-day life.

Hillary's Transcript Problems

She'll continue to pay a price for keeping the transcripts under lock and key. The media's coverage of the controversy will only remind voters that Clinton was paid millions from people working in the very industry she promises to reform. The questions will also keep her on the defensive at a time when she needs to be going on the offensive against a surging Sanders. And making matters even more awkward is that her but-all-politicians-do-it defense actually plays directly into Sanders' larger argument, which is that too many politicians do it. [1]

Getting Things Done

Hillary Clinton claims that she is the candidate who "can get things done," implying that Bernie Sanders has achieved very little during his political career.

However, Sanders is known in Washington as one of the most effective legislators. Working across the aisle, he has attached more amendments to bills than any other member. These amendments have made bills more progressive. For example:

In February 1995, a Sanders amendment to the Victims Justice Act of 1995 required that victims of fraud and other white-collar crimes be notified by the offenders so that they could collect any restitution due them.

In April 1998, he amended H.R. 6 to allow the Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education to make competitive grants available to colleges and universities that cooperatively reduced costs by joint purchase of goods and services. (More on this next week) [2]
