Do We Embrace Divide and Conquer or Unite and Prosper?
By Burl Hall
We are embedded in a world of divide and conquer. You often have the battle of the sexes, religion vs science, and left vs right. What would the world look like if we went beyond divide and conquer and instead promote a unite and prosper?
::::::::
Make Love, not War!
A Hippy's Cry of the 1960's
In the 1960's, songwriter Bob Dylan wrote a song titled "Blowing in the Wind." In this song he asks, "how many times do the cannon balls fly, until they are forever banned."
How many times indeed.
It is now 2015 and I personally have seen Korea, Vietnam, the Falklands, and the various wars of the Middle East.
Wars and rumors of wars, the Bible teaches regarding the end times.
Are the end times a judgment by an externalized God or is it simply the end of an era that we will naturally come out of? Will we become extinct by the natural consequences of our actions or will we get the foot of our Big Daddy? I generally side with the former more so than the latter.
Of course, there are many ways things could go and I have no idea what may actually happen.
My 2 primary questions are: Are we happy and secure in the world we live in? Can we evolve out of this mess?
I believe we can. But, it will change only if we to awaken to the pattern and change it.
I do know that the pattern we are under is grounded in the philosophy of divide and conquer. I could name several patterns of relationships that would hopefully reveal that pattern. Some examples are:
1. *The absurd notion of the battle of the sexes, male and female;
2. *The absurd notion of the battle of right wing and left wing. To show the absurdity of this, take your right hand and slap the left side of your face while shouting at the mirror: "YOU EVIL PIECE OF Sh*T!
3. *The absurdity of various institutions of religions warring with one another.
After all, the epistemological meaning of religion is to connect or bind together. What we have are warring philosophies about spirituality and not true religion. Making love, playing with one's child, and sunbathing clothed in a bathing suit or not clothed are acts of religion. Listening to a man or woman spouting divisive theologies from high on the pulpit is oftentimes anchored in self-righteous arrogance. Notice I say often and not always.
4. *In line with the above, also consider the self-righteous arrogance of a scientific theorist who can't see the remarkable spiritual teachings across the world from Asia to the Americas.
Again, there is no all-or-nothing to my remark. I know of several scientists who do embrace spirituality and write and speak on it.
To name a couple: Tom Campbell (http://www.blogtalkradio.com/envision-this/2014/07/16/charles-eisenstein-on-the-more-beautiful-world-our-hearts-know-is-possible)
And F. David Peat (regarding physicist David Bohm: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/envision-this/2014/02/26/reconnect-to-our-true-nature-via-a-documentary-on-quantum-physicist-david-bohm
F. David Peat on his work:
I could go on and on. Perhaps you can think of other examples?
Opposites are mirror images of one another. Go to your mirror and notice that right and left are on opposite sides. Seen through a mirror left and right reverse.
In our culture, opposites are all about divide and conquer. Its how they, the powers that be i.e., corporations, government, institutionalized dogmatic religions, and narrow minded scientists etc. keep us in line while generating profit for themselves in terms of power, money, and status.
For example, the so-called left leaning cable news channels such as CNN are pitted against the right leaning cable news channels such as Fox. These are orchestrated drama shows that make us afraid of everything from those Middle Easterners to the potential for a couple of inches of snow.
Well, here in Maine, it's been more than a couple of inches this year. More like several feet. Yet, here I am writing! I am still breathing. Nor do I get excited over a coming snowstorm. Yes, I must admit, I am looking forward to spring and am feeling it in the air!
Divisive fear mongering is planned for. Divide and conquer. Again, CNN vs Fox are pitted against each other to keep the general population mesmerized and stupefied. Just keep us entertained by drama shows! Meanwhile, lets watch those commercials to keep our jailers rich and happy. And who benefits? Us? I don't think so.
Think about this: Most of us work several hours per week for a corporation whose job is to make more and more money for their stockholders and owners. Meanwhile, at least in my lifetime, pay and benefits have diminished while worker representation is almost as extinct as dinosaurs via outsourcing. Then, there is the dumbing down of our children through the absurdity of the "No Child Left Behind Act".
And we continue to support these people by working for them for less money and benefits while buying their products and services?
Work harder for less and become more impoverished as you go! "That's what I want for my grandkids!" I say in sarcasm. I also doubt you want the same for your kids or grandkids.
Could you imagine aliens from another planet seeing this? They might think plants; whales and deer were the intelligent life of the planet. But, those hairless monkeys! They truly are not so smart.
"Beam me up Scottie!" remember that? That's what the aliens would say regarding our alienation from life and ourselves. Of course, I do recall one episode of Star Trek where aliens came to make friends with whales. Now, that makes sense. If you want to speak to intelligent life on the planet, don't come into any human contact.
If you don't get what I'm saying, listen to this flick of Maine's Governor, Paul LePage:
Can you stop laughing now? I can hear the Bible's Book of Proverbs, which says of Wisdom (Sophia): "She's not in me!" She definitely is not in the mind of Paul LePage.
What makes the current hallucination a greater source of enjoyment is that the money we diligently work for isn't worth the paper it's printed on. It's an intended hallucination. It's like the movie the Matrix!
Then, to put the hallucination further into your mind, you have credit cards and bank debit cards. Again, it's all a bunch of "ons" and "offs" in a computer chip.
Someone needs to pull the plug so the Koch Brothers can understand they are living a lie! Of course, they may have some gold stashed somewhere. But, even that doesn't have power. Could the Koch Brothers eat gold?
What if we began to turn our backs on divide and conquer and the Koch Brothers (and lets not neglect many of the other owners of our nation)? Instead, could we cultivate an ethos of unite and prosper?
What would a real economy look like?
What would your world look like if we decided to unite and prosper while firing the ones who elicit the divide and conquer ethos?
Ah, I can hear the hippie band Steppenwolf performing the song, "Monster". "American, where are you now, don't you care about your sons and daughters?"
Do you care?
From my point of view, most people (not those subscribing to OpEd) the answer generally is "No! I don't care!" I don't mean that as a slap to the readers and writers of "OEN." In fact, I think most of us do care.
If you wish, would you like to share what a real world would look like in the comments?
