Hong Kong Song

By Walt Gelles

China needs a huge infusion of economic and political democracy, as do Russia and the United States, a bankrupt empire which tries to dominate the world by military force. Here's a salute to the Hong Kong protestors...No more rule by the one percent.

Hong Kong Song

Umbrellas pointing to the sky.
Umbrellas proudly held on high
Tear gas, rain, and pepper spray
will not drive the umbrellas away.
All different colors but one voice:
We want a democratic choice.
All different colors but one song:
Bring democracy to Hong Kong
and to all of China, long overdue,
No more Rule by the Favored Few.

Let a hundred million umbrellas bloom
from Xinjiang to Tibet to Kowloon.

Let a hundred million umbrellas bloom.
Dictatorship is ending soon.
