Murrieta -- who would Jesus deport?

By Kathy Malloy

As the immigration debate heats up in Washington, DC, a busload of Central American immigrants, many of whom are women and children, was met by protesters in Murrieta, California. The mob waved signs stating "Return to Sender" and "No New Taxes" while chanting "GO HOME!" to the frightened families on board.

Politico has more:

"Homeland Security buses carrying migrant children and families were rerouted Tuesday to a facility in San Diego after American flag-waving protesters blocked the group from reaching a suburban processing center. The standoff in Murrieta came after Mayor Alan Long urged residents to complain to elected officials about the plan to transfer the Central American migrants to California to ease overcrowding of facilities along the Texas-Mexico border. Many of the immigrants were detained while fleeing violence and extortion from gangs in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. Juan Silva, 27, a welder in Chula Vista, said he thought officials were transporting drug traffickers. Then he heard the buses were carrying migrant families. 'I don't think people in that town should be against little kids,' he said about the protesters in Murrieta. 'We're not talking about rapists, we're talking about human beings. How would they feel if it was their kids?'"

Truthseekers, why not go ahead and dismantle the statue of liberty? Obviously, the tired and yearning huddled masses are not welcome here anymore. If these families want to escape from gangs and drugs and violence, they better look elsewhere. We've very good at fomenting the conditions in Central American nations that lead to these severe social problems, but we're not so hot on the aftermath.

Thank Saint Reagan, who was so determined to stop the spread of communism, he supported militant regimes who in turn brutalized innocent civilians (sound familiar?). The torture and "disappearance" of innocent civilians in El Salvador was particularly heinous.

In Guatemala, Reagan famously supported the anti-communist Montt regime, calling him a man of "personal integrity and commitment." Montt was later convicted of war crimes for his genocide of native Mayan civilians. We all know what happened in Nicaragua.

Given this history, shouldn't our conservatives be a little more compassionate toward these immigrant families? On Church Night, is it time to ask -- who would Jesus deport?

Authors Bio:
Kathy never expected a career in radio as a talk show producer. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Kathy was completing her nursing degree when in 2001 - in an emergency - she was asked to fill in as the producer of Mike's program. Within a few weeks she knew she'd found more than a temporary job. Since that beginning, Kathy has steadily grown more comfortable behind the control console, editing, engineering, and assisting in topic selection for the program while also retaining a fairly sizeable chunk of her sanity. Oh, and did we mention the utter (joyful) chaos of raising a daughter who, for some odd reason, only stops talking when she's asleep. Strange, that.

A life-long "talk radio junkie," Kathy takes her job with all the seriousness required, and thoroughly enjoys producing a talk show that's intelligent, factual, informative, and most of all entertaining. She takes great pride in -- and has great fun with -- the two biggest joys in her life: Their daughter Molly, and producing one of the most dynamic talk programs in radio.
