Subsequent Rotation

By Kim Cassidy

A continuation on the theme introduced in "Rotation", a poem by this author.

::::::::

the world,
stirring once again from slumber
and from dreams
(not lofty, these, but nightmares
featuring her sister,
Mercury)
reaches absently for her blanket,
the blue one
woven with the strands of hope
and so thin now as to be transparent.
ah, Mercury!
the one who has always positioned herself
to take the brunt
of mother's torrid anger
and father's firey fists,
while the rest of us line up behind,
guiltily,
affecting to whistle with desert tongues
through parchment lips,
averting our eyes
to the seemingly indifferent
stars.

Authors Bio:

I am an american born woman, in my late 50's, with B.A. (Psychology) and 99% completion of grad school (sociology, psychology, womens studies). My studies were pre 9/11, so I am old school, believing in the values of keeping families together, expressing healthy and real emotions, problem solving through communication, full client privacy, and I am convinced in the inherent goodness of people. I value individuality, creativity, and protecting nature and all of her children. I am, and always will be, against war and violence. Peace!
