How is Our Government Keeping Us Safe?

Invading our privacy to keep us safe is voodoo communication, it is false. We must stop listening to the words of government and start looking at their actions.

"al-Qaeda and bin Laden were behind the 9/11 attacks"

"Iraq has weapons of mass destruction"

"Afghanistan is where the 9/11 attacks were commandeered from"

"We need this Patriot Act to keep us safe"

"They're too big to fail"

"It takes a good person with a gun to take out a bad person with a gun"

And the quotes go on while we continue to be less safe, not from possible foreign invaders but from within -- our own government.

First, make no mistake the "us" is nobody but the government.   Invading the privacy of individual citizens   is to keep the government informed and safe against any "attacks", real or philosophical.

In reality, the government could not care less about you and I and the proof is in their actions.

While our government is snooping into our interpersonal communications, they have expanded it to corporations (maybe the reality is corporations are actually our government) who can now snoop into our bank accounts. Rather than ensuring our privacy in personal financial matters they have made us less secure by giving corporations the ability to snoop on us legally.

Corporations are also allowed to poison our food through a variety of methods, the GMO process being the latest weapon of mass destruction used. Some states even go so far as to make the purchase of generic foods unavailable to food stamp recipients. They can only purchase GMO poisoned foods.   While other nations throughout the world are banning such foods in order to keep their citizens safe, ours continues to pass laws encouraging the use of these poisoned foods.

While statistics show those living in poverty tend to have more health-related problems and meet an earlier death than those having a better living standard so it appears the government helps them to an earlier grave by making them purchase poisoned foods. That's keeping   us safe?

Further the government has imposed many more regulations on generic foods than on the poisoned GMO counterparts.

As if poisoning our food isn't enough there has been the explosion of the hydraulic fracturing, fracking, process in procuring oil and gas.   This process injects huge quantities of silica sand, fresh water, and compounds of toxic chemicals under extreme pressure into the ground.   The effects create highly toxic wastewater and hazardous air that have had serious effects to citizens. To the government keeping us safe makes laws that prohibit such processes from being less than 500 feet from our residence or 300 feet from fresh water ponds. As though that distance eliminates pollution of air and water.

Poisoning our food, water, and air is not enough. Prescription drugs are allowed to be sold even though the advertisements for them require more airtime to mention the side effects, including possible stroke, heart attack, even death, than the benefits of taking such. These are deemed "okay" by our government.

So, not keeping us safe from our food, air, water, and prescription drugs our government is still not content as they continue to pass laws that enable citizens to not only carry weapons, but to legally kill anyone they feel threatened by. I must ask, "How does this make us safe?"   We are told that being able to "carry" is to protect us from those "crazies" in our society. Frankly, from my experience it is the "crazies" who are carrying. They "strap on" with the intent to kill, but only if they "feel   threatened."

Meanwhile, nothing has been done to keep kids safe in their classrooms. Proposals have been to increase the number of guns by having armed security personnel in the schools. This hasn't seemed to work out well in several school shootings who in fact did have such personnel yet still saw youngsters slaughtered.

Poverty was mentioned above as a cause of many health-related problems and this may well be due to not only poor dietary habits, but also the inability to gain adequate healthcare. As poverty continues to grow in the United States mortality rates continue to decrease. The average U.S. citizen has lost two years longevity in the past decade. I guess keeping us healthy so we can live longer isn't in the "keeping us safe" agenda.

Of course in their "War on Poverty" (doesn't it appear that everything has to be a "war", maybe it's to instill the importance of the military industrial complex) the social safety net cannot be improved, but must be destroyed. As future prices continue to rise the government is planning to decrease the amount senior citizens, the disabled, and the sickly will receive from the Social Security Trust Fund to which they paid premiums their entire working life.   So much for stated guaranteed proceeds.

So, we are less safe as a result of poisoned foods, polluted air, contaminated water (even more threatening is the dwindling water supply), increased poverty, legalizing murder, and unsafe prescription medications, but our government doesn't stop there.

We have laws that eliminate habeas corpus, we continue to see individuals incarcerated for not breaking the law, but for reporting laws being broken and the actual perpetrators walking free, even gaining in financial wealth, while the "reporter"   sits behind bars or has their character shredded by the Corporate Media Propagandists (CMP).

We continue to see laws passed that prohibit citizens from voting.   For those who are allowed to vote we have been told by the Supreme Court we do not have the right to have our votes counted. We see voting apparatus being used that makes citizens uncertain their vote is even tallied as they intended yet there is no action from the government to keep us safe from the stealing of votes.

While the "safeguards" mentioned thus far in this article involve us individually there are also those implemented to destroy the safety, or sovereignty, of our nation. It began under Clinton with NAFTA and continues now with the TransPacific Partnership, TPP, which is being negotiated under strict secrecy.   No member of Congress or any other public official other than our U.S. Trade Representative Ron Froman is allowed to have any knowledge of the negotiations being carried on with over 600 corporate attorneys. Recently Congressman Grayson was given a draft, but under the condition he not release any of it to the public.

What has leaked out is frightening to say the least. Corporations will be allowed to sue nation's thus raping taxpayer dollars to actually pay for their environmentally destroying projects should they simply feel that not allowing them to carry forth would possibly hurt the investment of the corporation. The Keystone XL Pipeline would not only be a certainty, but the people would wind up paying for it to be constructed should a group of corporate mediators rule in the favor of the corporation.

It is one thing to make individuals citizens unsafe, but to take away the sovereignty of our entire nation is despicable, treasonous in fact.

So, while our government, through the Corporate Media Propagandists, tells us the laws they pass are done so in order to keep us safe one might reflect back over the course of the last three decades in hopes of coming up with a single law that was passed that actually does keep us safe -- from them -- as it appears they are the biggest threat to our personal safety.
