Evidence Conservatives Are Always Wrong

By Eric Zuesse

To know why conservatives are always wrong requires a knowledge of what conservatism is. History provides ample evidence of what conservatism is -- not what it claims to be, but what it actually is: what it has always been.

::::::::

The historical record is clear:

Conservatives were wrong to support slavery.

Conservatives were wrong to support restricting the right to vote to only people with property.

Conservatives were wrong to support restricting the right to vote to only men.

Conservatives were wrong to support restricting the right to vote to only white men.

Conservatives were wrong to support restricting the right to marry to only heterosexuals.

Conservatives were wrong to oppose the U.S. joining Britain to defeat the fascists: Hitler, Mussolini, and Tojo.

Conservatives were wrong to oppose Lincoln's going to war to eliminate slavery.

Conservatives were wrong to oppose the Founders' going to war to achieve independence from the King.

Conservatives were wrong to oppose ending Prohibition.

Conservatives were wrong to oppose regulating the Wall Street firms.

So, the historical record is clear that Conservatives have always supported what is bad, and opposed what is good.

There can be only two reasons they're always wrong: Some conservatives are evil, and the others are stupid enough to fall for the lies and bigotry of conservative leaders.

Does any conservative have an intelligent hope of deserving more than contempt? Only if he stops being one.

Of course, conservatives don't agree with this. But they didn't agree with decent people about slavery, either.

History shows that what they agree with is far likelier to be false than true.
