The paradox of American psyche

Morning Joe Scarborough from MSNBC is all for the background checks. He is furious at Sen. Graham and others like him who seem to argue that such measure will not help. He is furious that 'the same people who supported me in getting Bin Laden by any measures necessary..' those who, like him, were OK with waterboarding are now suddenly pro-gun. He says that
The country which sent a man to the Moon
The country which defeated the Nazis
The country which defeated Communism
The country which crushed the Soviet Union
The country which pursued Bin Laden with all measures including waterboarding
The country which fed more people on Earth than any other in history
That country according to pro-gun people cannot do much to protect its children from an internal gun violence.

Joe should maybe look at it in a different way:
The country which dropped two nuclear bombs and boasts to kill 100000 people in a second
The country which did not defeat the Nazi Germany- the Russians did
The country which did not defeat Communism; ideology and philosophy cannot be defeated
The country which has nothing to do with the collapse of the Soviet Union; it imploded on its own due to internal causes
The country which sent a man to the Moon but then found out it cannot do anything like that or even close and effectively abandoned the active space research
The country which unleashed so many aggressive wars and killed so many people with impunity that it became a symbol of barbarism
The country which disrupted lives of the people all around the world and then claimed to be their savior
The country which has people like Joe and his allies promoting torture in the 21st Century
Such country cannot protect anyone or anything from anyone or anything. Maybe we here should let the people get their Bushmasters because if waterboarders are for the gun control we should better buy more guns.
