Environmental Groups that Issued Warnings have Short Memories When Endorsing Obama

By Timothy Gatto

That he is the lessor evil still makes him evil. There are candidates out there that can be counted on to stand up for the environment. This only works if we can put away the dichotomy of "the two party system".

I received an e-mail from Ben Shaw with whom I have written articles. Ben asked me if I could put his information in an article and include my thoughts about the situation he presented me with. He needn't have asked me. The information you are about to read says it all. It shows, by using empirical evidence, just how bad the Obama Campaign is. They are completely out of touch with his "base" and how they take most of his long-time supporters for complete fools. All I'm asking is that you read the preponderance of evidence presented. I'm sure that many of you will see the following insults to your intelligence. Moreover, since Obama hasn't even deemed the environment to be a campaign issue, which his supporters will excuse his anti-environmental stance in, order to go "with the lessor of two evils".

That he is the lessor evil still makes him evil. There are candidates out there that can be counted on to stand up for the environment. This only works if we can put away the dichotomy of "the two party system". It isn't working and has never really worked. With over three hundred million Americans, and 150 million of voting age, it is unbelievable that so few of us actually vote. Maybe the reason for this is because we Americans are only told about those that are Democrats or Republicans. This is an article that attempts to expose the fact that for environmentalists or anyone that cares about leaving this world to our children in half decent shape; the mainstream media has let us down again. It will continue to do so until the American people demand to hear about all the candidates in the race, for all offices. Don't you believe it is about time? Read this:

Facts about Obama's Environmental Record

On April 18th, the environmental groups, the League of Conservation Voters, the Sierra Club, Environment America, the League of Conservation Voters, and Clean Water Action endorsed President Obama.  But, environmental voters who receive warnings every day or two in their email inboxes containing warnings about something the Obama administration has done, or is about to do, or has failed to do with regard to protecting the environment, might be wondering what these groups are thinking when there is a real environmentalist, Rocky Anderson, with a proven record on the environment while mayor of Salt Lake City, Utah is running for President on a strong environmental platform on issues such as clean energy and climate change.  With President Obama's decision to fast track the Southern part of the XL Pipeline, we urge environmental voters to explore the old messages in their Inbox and decide for themselves whether Barrack Obama has protected the environment or whether it is time to turn to Rocky Anderson who, when elected, will not need to be bombarded with petitions every two days to protect the environment. Rocky Anderson would keep his promises because he believes that protecting the environment is a sacred duty of anyone who holds the office of President of the United States. Jill Stein is another viable candidate. Here is a few recent warnings that environmental groups have been sending to their members:

Obama Ignores Plight of Polar Bears

"Polar bears are one of the world's most poignant symbols of global warming's danger to life, yet the Obama administration refuses to throw them a lifeline. This week, the government announced plans to reissue a Bush rule that leaves polar bears unprotected from the main threat to their survival: greenhouse gas emissions. The rule excludes all activities outside the bear's range from important regulations under the Endangered Species Act, meaning the Act can't protect bears from the polluting emissions that are melting their Arctic home"..

"If polar bears are to survive, we have to directly confront the greatest threat to them: our greenhouse gas emissions," said the Center's Kassie Siegel. "But the Obama administration seems to be living in a fantasy world where the way to solve a difficult problem is to deny its existence."

Obama fails to come out against Oil Drilling in the Arctic

"Shell's drill ships are on their way to the Arctic Ocean right now to begin the most aggressive offshore Arctic-drilling program in history, endangering polar bears and their habitat -- unless President Barack Obama decides to stop them in the next few weeks."

Obama White House Fails to Stand up for Bats

"With nearly 7 million bats dead from the terrible disease white-nose syndrome, the Obama administration is not moving fast enough to stem its spread across the country. That's why on Wednesday the Center for Biological Diversity filed a national petition urging the White House to tell federal land-management agencies to limit human entry into caves to help stop the disease's spread to the West."

EPA Lets Wildlife, Human Lead Poisoning Continue

Obama Administration fails to oppose NRA bill

"Millions of birds die every year due to secondary lead poisoning from lead bullets and shot: It's a fact. But the Environmental Protection Agency refuses to regulate the toxic lead in hunting ammunition despite two petitions from the Center for Biological Diversity and 150 allied groups asking for a switch to nontoxic ammo. Bald eagles, highly endangered California condors, swans and many other species of birds are exposed to lead and poisoned by ingesting spent lead shot or scavenging carcasses with lead bullet fragments. People (especially children) who eat game shot with lead ammo risk serious health effects from lead poisoning.

Despite the hard facts about the dangers of lead, the NRA is now jumping in with a bill in the House of Representatives that would stop a key environmental law from protecting animals from lead poisoning in the wild. There's no reason not to save wildlife from these painful deaths: There are plenty of non-lead, nontoxic ammunition on the market today."

Obama Administration Does Nothing on Mountaintop Removal in West Virginia

"Mountaintop removal coal mining blows off the tops of mountains to extract the coal that fuels our nation's power plants. It has already leveled 500 mountains and buried over 1,200 miles of streams2 -- but it gets worse. It raises my community's risk of birth defects, cancer, and heart disease.

Right now, dozens of permits are pending for new mines and the Obama Administration could approve them any day. If they get approved, it will mean more people get sick and more mountains get destroyed. I don't know about you, but I don't want any more families to suffer the effects of Big Coal's pollution."

Obama Administration Department of the Interior allows water to be pumped from Mojave

"Deserts are known for beautiful vistas, curious creatures and resilient plant life. What they're not known for is water. That's why it seems so crazy to me that the Interior Department is allowing a private developer to pump water out of Mojave Desert aquifers to feed Los Angeles and Orange Counties

Water is a huge issue in California. No doubt, people need a clean source of drinking water in cities. But pumping water from under the Mojave Desert -- especially without proper federal review of the plans -- is not the smart answer "

Obama Administration and EPA fail to act to protect Sea Life and Oceans.

"The world's oceans and their rich array of life are in trouble. Every day 22 million tons of carbon dioxide are spewed from cars, power plants and other human sources are absorbed by oceans, making seawater more and more acidic. The lower pH is robbing creatures like sea stars, crabs and corals of the compounds they need to develop their hard shells -- and thus threatening their very survival. This has a ripple effect up the food chain, spelling disaster for larger animals, from salmon to sea otters to whales and people.

On Wednesday the Center for Biological Diversity took the unprecedented step of calling on the White House and the Environmental Protection Agency to develop a sweeping national plan to address ocean acidification. It's part of our new Endangered Oceans campaign to save sea life from this pending disaster.

Join us in asking the EPA to stop ocean acidification from forever ruining our oceans and killing off the life they sustain."

Obama must be urged to keep promise on fracking.

"In his State of the Union speech, President Obama promised that drilling and fracking for natural gas would happen "without putting the health and safety of our citizens at risk."

Oil and gas companies are trying to get Obama to go back on his word.

On April 17, the Environmental Protection Agency is set to finalize regulations that would reduce lung-burning smog and cancer-causing benzene from fracking and drilling. But the oil and gas industry is lobbying hard for loopholes that would dramatically weaken the rule--and they're taking their fight straight to the White House."

USDA Secretary Vilsack--who oversees the U.S. Forest Service fails to protect Tongass National Forest and Obama Administration fails to speak out on this issue.
"Right now, Congress is considering the fate of many of the finest stands of coastal temperate rainforest in Alaska's Tongass National Forest--considered to be the crown jewel of the U.S. National Forest system.

If passed, this legislation will hand over tens of thousands of acres to Sealaska Corporation for clearcutting and commercial development. Gone will be towering stands of trees as old as 500 years and as big as 10 feet in diameter--some of the richest prizes in this vast old-growth rainforest.

Gone, too, will be the home they provide for eagles, bears, wolves, salmon and countless other species. Also harmed will be the many southeast Alaskans who live off these lands and waters for their subsistence lifestyles and livelihoods, and the many others from across the country who rely upon and visit the Tongass for world-class recreation, hunting, tourism, and sport and commercial fishing."

Environmental Groups pleads with Obama Administration not to cave into Big Oil on drilling in the Arctic.

"Big Oil has already received an early Valentine from a key congressional committee: a green light for legislation for more drilling off our coasts, including the remote and sensitive Arctic Ocean.

Will the Obama administration follow suit with an Arctic giveaway of its own?

Take action now: Urge the Obama administration to protect our natural heritage and oppose an expansion of risky oil and gas drilling."

EPA fails to protect clean water in Florida.

The EPA had proposed a numeric nutrient standard to clean up Florida's waterways. Now it appears it is set to approve Florida Department of Environmental Protection's standards, which will result in more pollution in our waterways. The state's plan will not work because it does not have triggers to ensure corrective actions. Florida needs enforceable federal limits that will protect Florida's waters from turning to toxic green slime.

Petition from the Sierra Club's Website:

The facts above stand for themselves. One other thing that I would like you to think about is whether or not these environmental organizations are actually endorsing Obama because of his environmental record, or are they simply trying to keep their tax-free status? If you think that they actually believe that Obama will do no harm to the environment, think again.
