Islamophobia And Free Speech: Are Jones-Fueled Riots At Two Embassies Justified?

By Rev. Dan Vojir

Pastor Terry Jones has struck again with the posting of TWO videos: one depicting Islam's Muhammad as a bisexual, megalomaniac and pedophile and another in which he "tries" Muhammad and declares 9/11 to be "International Judge Muhammad Day." The protests have sparked riots and have been linked to the death of one American diplomat in Cairo.

U.S. Pastor Hangs Mohammed In Effigy And Posts Film Depicting Him As Homosexual Child Molester. Says It Was To Show That Islam Is A Violent Religion.

Back in 2010, one of the most virulent and violence-prone pastors in the country, Terry Jones, caused an international uproar in his threat to burn the Q'uran. Now again, the actions of Pastor Terry Jones of Gainesville, Florida have led to riots on two U.S. Embassies, causing the death of one U.S. State Department Employee in Libya.

"An American State Department employee was killed in Benghazi, Libya, today, when Libyans stormed the U.S. consulate, angry about a U.S. movie reportedly linked to controversial   Pastor Terry Jones .

Anger over the film that some believe insults the Prophet Muhammad also led to protests in Cairo, where demonstrators climbed the walls of the U.S. embassy, took down the American flag and replaced it with a black flag."

Statesman and politicians have been quick to respond to the attacks in their own ways: while Secretary of State Hillary Clinton condemned the attacks on the embassies, Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney condemned the Obama Administration for sympathizing with the attackers:

"I'm outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi," he said. "It's disgraceful that the Obama administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks."

That statement was made after the U.S. Embassy in Cairo condemned "the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims."

No official statements have been made concerning Pastor Terry Jones.

"If your freedom of speech has no limits, may you accept our freedom of action."

  - a recently scrawled graffiti on the side of the U.S. Embassy.

Sam Bacile, an American citizen who said he produced, directed and wrote t he two-hour film said he had not anticipated such a furious reaction. And while he's sorry for the death of the American diplomat, he blames    lax embassy security.

As in the past, Pastor Jones disavows any responsibility for violence or death.

Lest We Forget

The film (clip) and the video below were produced for the 11th anniversary of 9/11 for the greatest Islamophobic effect while playing upon fears for the safety of Coptic Christians in Egypt. They may seem as incendiary as Jones' burning of the Q'uran since they focus not only on Islam, but Christian persecution, pedophilia and homosexuality - all hot button issues abroad as well as in the U.S. The ill-conceived investigation of "Muslim Brotherhood infiltrators" by congresswoman Michele Bachmann is still fresh in the minds of Americans.

Widely considered to be part of the Christian Right "lunatic" fringe, Pastor Terry Jones nonetheless capitalized on the sentiment of Bachmann and others by premiering his  "International Judge Muhammad Day" video (in which Muhammad hangs in effigy and noted Obamaphobe James Manning is quoted) and posting Sam Bacile's video.

Run out of Germany   by his own congregation for using church funds to sustain a lavish lifestyle and forcing members to work in his faith-based enterprises for little or no money, then fined by the German state for giving false credentials (he stated he had a doctorate in theology when he did not), Jones turned to Florida to rebuild a ministry base on hatred of Islam and gays. It is not surprising, therefore, that the film he posted portrays Mohammad as a militant, child-molesting bi-sexual who hates Christianity.

The irony of consciously provoking violence to depict a "violent religion" might be lost on someone as hell-bent to portray the evils of Islam as Pastor Jones.

The portrait of Jones as a publicity-hungry fringe personality, however, may not be lost on the American public.

AUTHOR'S WARNING: The film clip looks to be a parody of sorts, but it unfortunately is not: too closely melded into a fabric of horrendous storytelling are fake beards, poor cine-cuts, bad acting, melodramatic dialogue worthy only of SNL's discarded scripts. It is so gut-wrenchingly bad, it cannot even be elevated to the level of camp classic. Mohammad is nothing but a p*ssy-whipped megalomaniac bent on pederastic rape and mindless plunder.
