Belly Dancing and the Revelation of Truth

By Burl Hall

Can we come into peace? Only if we are ready to make fundamental change. And, that change DEMANDS that we let go of our current conditioning. It requires a death. This article uses the motive of the virgin birth, identified as the emergence of creation from the Uncreated or Unamanifest, as the beginning mind set from which we can bith the new world.

"God created man in the image of himself,

In the image of God he created him,"

Male and female he created them.

-Genesis 1:27 of The Bible

Today Nature appears to be in the midst of a rape that has lasted for several centuries.   Who, though, is really being raped?   Meditate for a moment on the term Nature.   It actually has two meanings.   It is a reference to the Earth and her ecosystems (which gives you the food you eat and the air you breathe) as well as referring to the Essence of a thing, animal or person.    Thus you might say that it's not in your Nature to get into arguments regarding religion or politics.

Sensuous dances such as the belly dance metaphorically speak to this unveiling of Nature as Essence.     The Dance of the 7 veils serves the surface conditioned world we think as real to unveil the true Nature of ourselves and everything else.   Nature clothed hides our Nature as Essence and one's true Nature is not separate from the Divine Nature.   The Divine Nature is not the conditioned character you think you are, nor the character that is described by personality tests.   We are speaking to your deepest Nature, the Nature beyond all thought.   Could your Nature be one with Nature's Nature?

The 7 layers of clothing on a belly dancer speak to the layers of creation (e.g., the 7 days of Genesis) after which Truth or the Divine Essence is beheld.   Why is Nature identified as feminine?   It is because there is not a person reading this that did not come out of a woman's body and whose body is not an egg that was sparked into becoming millions of cells by his father's sperm.   We are eggs morphed into human beings.   Yet, I would say that even though you were conceived via intercourse, there is a level at which you are virgin born and can become a virgin Mother to Christ, the incarnate Sophia (Wisdom) of God.

To understand this, let's take a different look at the Virgin Birth.   Marie ultimately means Ocean (e.g., marine, marina).   If we take this definition of Mary and compare it to the Old Testament version of Creation, then we have a mirroring of old and new testaments.   Just as the Spirit (Ruach, feminine and identified with Wisdom or Hockmah Binah in Judiasm and Sophia in Greek) moved across the face of the Water and gave birth to the Word in Genesis, the Word made flesh was conceived and born of Marie in the New.   In Genesis, this birth is reflected in the series of "Let there be"" statements through which the world divides exponentially until we have me writing, you reading, and the infinite variety of life that is around us.

The Spirit that came upon Mary in the New Testament is simply a repeat of Genesis 1.   As such, John 1:14 of the New Testament, which states the Word is made flesh, is a statement describing this moment of creation.     Hence this Earth and the universe we are grounded in are the "Word made flesh."   Going deeper, the whole slew of "Let there be" statements in Genesis could be seen as primordial vibrations which gives form to all of matter within the Eternal Now (i.e., timelessness).   Indeed, as the Hindu Ramakrishna realized, creation is not in times past but is eternally now.   His thoughts are reflected by author Lex Hixon's interpretation (p.204):

   "More than creator and creation,

     Mother is pure Creativity

     Beyond any notion of duality

     Universe and God

Are thrilling glances from Her beautiful eyes

     Always pregnant with ecstasy

She gives birth to manifest being

Nursing him tenderly at Her breast

She in play consumes Her child.

     The world dissolves instantly

     Upon touching Her white teeth

Attaining the realization of Her brilliant

     And translucent void."

In essence, the formless and infinite Ocean of no-thing takes form via the desire (Eros) to create which also brings forth the vibrations of the universe (i.e., the Word). This has scientific backing in physics experiments where a photon behaves more like a wave when a scientist is not looking and a particle when he is (see the Holographic Universe by Talbot).   Thus, your eyes take the light waves of this screen into your brain and creates an image.   According to neurologist Karl Pribram, these waves are analyzed by the brain by a form of Calculus called Fourier Transforms and converted into an image.   Hence, the image of this screen is not "out there" it is in your head as are the feeling of fingers moving across the keyboard.   The image of the screen isn't even in the front of your head, close to your eyes.   It's in the back of your head!   The world is not "out there".   It is "in here and back there."

Think for a moment about the ramifications of this.   There is a place in which you and this moment exist eternally Now.   By eternal Now we are saying that all points past, present and future are Now.   Furthermore, in your deepest nudity you are void and without form.   In this state you are also infinite.   Eternal life does not commence after you die.   It is within you eternally here and now for at some point you have never been born and hence cannot die (see video of the teaching of Meister Eckhart, a Christian mystic of the 14th century).   The reason why the suppression of this knowledge, which includes the suppression of the power of women, is happening to this day through the enslavement of people throughout the world (the labor classes) is to keep people under the thumb of the rulers of this world. When the Bible states that Man shall rule over Woman in Genesis, then it is speaking to the government, the corporations and even we who are suppressing the potentials inherent in every Psyche or Soul, including our own. Every time that we keep our mouths shut because of the fear of government or corporate retaliation, the curse on Eve is being reenacted.   Could it be time to end this curse?

In ancient times, a woman's body served as a metaphor for the process of birth, maintenance and death (return to the Unmanifest).   This means you have to die in order to be born.   Just as you were born when you grew to the point that you could survive externally from the uterus, you need to outgrow the world you think is real now in order to be born into a more enlightened world.   You have to die to the safety of the civilized womb that now contains you and emerge into another order of being.   In other words, you have to let go of your conditioning to what you think the world is and who you are.

This is not an easy task.   Our way of life has been going along for the past 6 to 7,000 years hence the conditioning is strong and we resist the death necessary for the new unfolding.   Why?   The reason is because we are afraid of letting go to our selves, which means we also fear change.   Yet, in order for a sperm to take part in becoming a new human, he must die to the egg and the egg must die to being an egg.   Death is necessary for the new to unfold.   Ring out the old; bring forth the new!   On a psychological or spiritual level, this death is reflected in the man and woman losing all sense of their self during an intense orgasmic moment.

It is this death that we are afraid to face.   Even within the 99% movement there appears to be many that just want the politicians and corporations to behave themselves.   Not going to happen!   Why?   Nothing will change because the pattern is well entrenched through several centuries of conditioning.   WE need to change from the inside out.

We need deep change.   We can't afford to just go through the same rigamaroll.   It was way too easy for the movements of the 60's to quiet down which brought forth the more placid 70's, 80's and 90's.   In essence we went from John Lennon's nudity and Pink Floyd's "The Wall" to Madonna's "Material Girl."   Similarly, India went from Ghandi's deep sense of self-sufficiency in community to a nation that in many ways looks like the US, Britain, and other European giants.   Why they even have the atomic bombs and now missiles to drop them on Bejing.

Yet, there is hope.   There is a recording on YouTube that says, "Those dirty "f'n' hippies were right" (see links below).   And, they were.   Love is the key.   As the Rolling Stones say in "Gimme Shelter," "Rape and Murder, it's just a kiss away! (also in the links)"

Pucker your lips for it's up to us to kiss away.   We can't count on politicians and corporate tyrants to kiss anything away.   Why?   It is because they are locked into the mentality of rape and murder which is founded on a false sense of power.   That false sense of power is power over others and over the world.   However, true power is not in power over others.   The power is within our self.   It is this internal power that they don't want us to tap into.   This is the reason the Feminine is suppressed.   The Feminine reflects the unborn potential lying in wait for Her lover who will initiate the unfolding of peace within ourselves and in the world.   It is not in a politician, a spiritual movement, or a new philosophy that we need.   We need YOU to kindle the fires of your Truth, your Self!   It is in those fires of love that new life will unfold.   Yet, as Snow White teaches, you must wake up from the poisonous apple of vanity.

It is we that need to take responsibility for kindling the new world from the Womb of our Souls.    Nor can we have another revolution such as the French revolution in the late 1700's.   We know the historical outcome of that revolution.   It all started when women began to riot due to not being able to feed their family.   Unfortunately, Napoleon arose to provide another new boss that was the same as the old.   It's the same with the American Revolution that spit the British Empire out of the States and that became THE Empire of the 20th century.   Meet the new boss, same as the old (the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again" also in the references).

Thus, change must be fundamental and it must begin at home, in you and me.   It shall be us, through our writings, our lifestyles and our overall actions in the world that shall help Father that birth in others.   We can no longer hang onto an outdated dualistic rationalistic (rationed or divided) worldview that has left us with feuds between women and men, parents and children, the workplace and the employees, the government and corporations and the people of various lands.   We can have peace on Earth.   But that peace is only going to unfold from within us and by our seeing the planet and each other as the manifestation of the Self (i.e., Yahweh or I AM).

The question I present in my articles speak not so much towards the politicians, but how WE the people can empower ourselves within a planet that is healthy, wealthy and wise.
