Thoughts on the Rush Limbaugh Case

By Richard Franklin

Limbaugh, who has reveled in his great power for many years, is suddenly totally helpless in the face of the women's movement, something he has always ridiculed. I guess it's pay-back time. Countless women hate the longtime anti-feminist Limbaugh, who has ridiculed and insulted feminists during the long life of his national program, and is now on the receiving end of pure hatred by women who are getting their revenge.

Rush Limbaugh possesses a classic authoritarian personality. There is nothing such a person hates more than to have his authority challenged or overridden. There is considerable literature on the authoritarian personality sickness, and it exactly describes his type. A brief look at the literature on this subject tells us Limbaugh is a classic case. If interested, read "Conservatives Without a Conscience" by John Dean. He did considerable research on this subject. The title of the book accurately suggests the content. This book may have been his most important to date.

It is typical of these authoritarian types that they will twist the facts to blame the victims for any vile personal attacks directed at them. In Limbaugh's case, he fumbles rather badly in his attempt to shed his vile behavior and to blame it on liberals. He keeps saying he momentarily departed from his usual rational, gentlemanly self to act and talk like a liberal. In other words, his vile behavior had somehow sprouted out of the dominant liberal model for behavior.

Blaming liberals for the slip in his otherwise supposedly rational, gentlemanly behavior is so far out, Saturday Night Live will never be able to satirize it. Satire, after all, requires an exaggeration of somebody's behavior and thinking. If anything, they will have only his apology to satirize and perhaps his blaming liberals for his vile behavior.

Big business is not stupid enough to buy his absurd blaming of liberals for his vile behavior. No amount of apologizing by Limbaugh can rescue him. The reason for this is simple. Women all over Amerika are informing any and all corporations selling products on the Limbaugh show that they will no longer buy their products if they continue advertising on the Limbaugh show. Rush is helpless to stop this boycotting the products sold via his show.

No women across this nation are going to blame liberals for Limbaugh's disgusting behavior. His rationalization borders on psychosis.

He prides himself on his oratorical skills. Well, such skills, if they do exist, are useless in this situation. The corporations advertising products on Rush's show are rushing pell mell to quit his radio show as reports pour in of shrinking sales! On the Internet, many liberal organizations are asking women to write to Limbaugh's sponsors to express their intention to stop buying any product advertised on the show.

Limbaugh, who has reveled in his great power for many years, has suddenly found himself totally helpless in the face of the women's movement, something he has always ridiculed in the past. I guess it's pay-back time. Countless women hate the longtime anti-feminist Limbaugh, who has ridiculed and insulted feminists during the long life of his national program, and who is now on the receiving end of pure hatred by feminist women who are getting their revenge.

And there isn't a damned thing he can do about it. I love it.

Here are a few typical past attacks on women by Herr Limbaugh:

Concerned over women corrupting our judicial system, Limbaugh advised that, "When it is good-looking studs being tried, keep women off the juries."

Limbaugh frequently substituted "feminazis" for "feminists."

He once said women should not have the right to vote! I kid you not. (He eventually withdrew this after pressure from the network.)

He once declared that "All women think they are fat." I've never asked a slender woman if she thought she was fat, so I have no empirical evidence to suggest that he is wrong in his claim. I can only say I've never observed slender women saying they were fat. This only happens when a slender person suffers from a well known mental disorder.

Rush has declared that:

"Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society."

"I love the women's movement. Especially when I am walking behind it."

"Women were doing quite well in this country before feminism came along."

"We're in bad shape in this country when you can't look at a couple of huge knockers and notice them."

"All those feminazis out there demanding their right to an abortion as the most important thing in their life never have to worry about having one because who'd want to have sex with 'em?"

I have to say that during my youthful years I met many feminist women in the social circles I mixed in. I met sundry feminists who could have seduced me within a few minutes had they chosen to do so. Based on this sampling, I charge Rush with using manufactured stats. He asks who would want to have sex with a "feminazi."

He must have been kidding when he said that. Is this a case of sour grapes?
