Popular four term Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg is running against Congressman Peter King in New York?s Third Congressional District. Mr. Denenberg is the type of Democrat that we desperately need. Beyond being a Nassau County Legislator, he is a lawyer that represents people in lawsuits concerning environmental contamination.

He is someone who is not afraid to be tenacious and fight for what he believes in. Denenberg?s accomplishments include balancing the county?s budget and helped upgrade Nassau County?s debt rating (with was near junk bond status when the Republicans were in control.)

The incumbent, Peter King, is well known. Although King recently has been resolute in opposing the UAE port deal, he voted against increased port security funding only a few short years ago.

Peter King is a conservative Republican and his record basically supports the Bush/Cheney agenda of cutting taxes for the most fortunate and offsetting the costs through cuts to the middle class. King is a strong opponent of abortion rights and a strong proponent of the Iraq War. According to the website wikipedia.org, ?In June 2005 he was quoted as saying that he supported President George Bush?s position that there was a connection between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda.

In 2005 he stated that Valerie Plame, the outed CIA officer, deserved to be outed. King also suggested that the media ?be shot? for pursuing the story and identifying White House aide Karl Rove as the alleged leaker.?

A constituent letter that was critical of President Bush unleashed this response from King:

?I disagree with you in every respect. You are morally, intellectually and politically wrong. President Bush is an outstanding leader of outstanding integrity. Like Ed Koch, I thank God every night that he is our president. You should do the same.?

We need to replace a Congressman that is so out-of-touch that he thanks God every night that George W. Bush is our president.
