Will Warren Buffet Join 'Occupy Wall Street'?

By Peter Theis

Will Warren Buffett not just talk the talk but actually walk the walk and join the Occupy Wall Street movement?

Will Warren Buffet Join Occupy Wall Street?

Warren Buffet begins his recent Op-Ed in the New York Times entitled "Stop Coddling the Super-Rich" by saying:   "OUR leaders have asked for 'shared sacrifice.'  But when they did the asking, they spared me."

He goes on to say that "...we mega-rich continue to get our extraordinary tax breaks" and "have been coddled long enough by a billionaire-friendly Congress," so it's "time for our government to get serious about shared sacrifice."

The Occupy Wall Street movement, who are "the 99 percent that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1 percent," is literally living the sacrifice.  They are not waiting for government to take action, nor waiting to be asked to do so.

If Warren Buffett feels so strongly that these extraordinary tax breaks are wrong, will he give up the money he makes from those breaks and donate it to those movements which are calling for a progressive tax rate?

Will he acknowledge, even further, as Dr. Michael Parenti argues, that "Wealth creates poverty and relies on it for its own continued existence.  Without slaves and serfs how would the master and lord live in the style to which they are accustomed?"

Will the words of Lord Buffett ring hollow when seen in this light, especially since he knows real chances for significant change are unlikely to come from our current or future politicians?

The 99% are camped out right now, doing the real work.

And, Mr. Buffett?
