The Bizarre Theft of Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski's Miracle Cancer Cure
By Meryl Ann Butler
"Burzynski, the Movie" is the story of Dr. Stanislaw R. Burzynski, a physician/scientist who has baffled--and apparently terrified--the American cancer industry by his ability to cure "incurable" cancers consistently, inspiring the FDA's 14-year campaign of harassment against him, and the bizarre, ethically compromised actions of the National Cancer Institute, resulting in the theft of his patent.

Burzynski, the Movie , directed and produced by Eric Merola, is the story of Stanislaw R. Burzynski, MD, Ph.D, an internationally recognized physician and scientist who has baffled--and apparently terrified--the American cancer industry by his ability to successfully treat "incurable" cancers with stunning consistency.
Dr. Burzynski has a clinic in Texas, and has treated thousands of cancer patients from all parts of the world for over 40 years. A pioneer in cancer research, he is known worldwide for discovering Antineoplastons, which target cancer cells without destroying normal cells.
These Antineoplastons are responsible for curing some of the most "incurable" forms of terminal cancer, and are responsible for the first recorded cures in medical history within any FDA - approved clinical trial for inoperable brainstem gliomas in children, having a nearly 30%-50% cure rate for a segment of cancer patients who previously were left without hope.
In 1967, after obtaining his medical degree, and while completing his PhD in biochemistry, Burzynski discovered a strain of peptides that had never been recorded in biomedical research.
As Dr. Julian Whitaker stated in the film, "discovering something in the urine (and blood) at that time, that had never been discovered before--is like finding a whole bunch of new islands ten miles off the coast of Miami, it came as a big surprise."
Dr. Burzynski did not realize what this discovery meant at that time. However, he and his colleagues were extremely excited, and he continued to explore it.
After testing human blood he found that these newly discovered peptides were either absent, or nearly so, in the blood of individuals with cancer.
Dr. Burzynski hypothesized that the administration of these peptides to cancer patients might be helpful in treating the disease. He conducted his initial work by extracting these peptides from human blood or urine, but by the early 1980's began to synthesize the chemicals needed to help the body naturally produce the peptides.
This movie features Dr. Burzynski's miraculous achievements and his appreciative patients, as well as the FDA's 14-year campaign of harassment against him, the bizarre and ethically compromised actions of the National Cancer Institute, which resulted in the eventual theft of Dr. Burzynski's patent.

The NY Times calls Burzynski "a stoic victim of patent fraud, government harassment and scientific sabotage."
Burzynski's unprecedented cures inspired numerous investigations by the Texas Medical Board, who relentlessly took Dr. Burzynski as high as the state supreme court in their many failed attempts to halt his successful practices.
Dr. Whitaker notes that, "True progress in medicine has always, without exception, been violently resisted by medical authorities who cling to the beliefs of their times."
Merola says the story "makes the "Watergate scandal' look like a kindergarten pottery class."
This movie won the Humanitarian Vision Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival, 2010.
Variety calls "Burzynski, The Movie" "a dramatic expose of the FDA and its incestuous relationship with Big Pharma as it seeks to first discredit, then co-opt Burzynski's discovery."
