Christine O'Donnell Loves Frodo - As Long As He Doesn't Spank The Monkey !
By Rev. Dan Vojir
Tea Baggers and Republicans both have a penchant for NOT vetting their candidates. And it's certainly evident with Christine O'Donnell who, if she's smart, will drop out of the race. But that's the problem: she isn't smart.
::::::::
Poor Delaware. It's a beautiful state that nobody seems to remember - Perhaps because nobody has ever been there. But that will all change if Christine O'Donnell becomes senator. Because she'll make sure that you remember her. The state's reputation will hang on to her or rather, be dragged by her kicking and screaming. For what Michele Bachmann has done to a district in Minnesota, O'Donnell is determined to do to Delaware.
Some people call O'Donnell avaricious. Some people call O'Donnell a liar. Some people call O'Donnell an unmarried, silly prude. Some people call O'Donnell a complete fraud.
Karl Rove thinks she has a "character problem."
But Tony Perkins loves her:
"We are pleased to announce that Christine O'Donnell will join us to speak at the Values Voter Summit. We applaud her for valiantly defending faith, family and freedom throughout this campaign.
Typically, Tea Partiers and Republicans are not supporting O'Donnell for what she's for as much as for what she's against: condoms, gay rights, masturbation, pornography, big government, feminists, teaching evolution, and anyone who doesn't worship J.R.R. Tolkien. You can wear yourself out googling, and reading wikipedia, but you will not read about O'Donnell being for very much, unless it's a totally sterilized, "Leave It To Beaver" society.
The scary part of O'Donnell's victory over Castle is that it re-affirms the idea that Republicans and Tea Baggers never properly vet their candidates. For example, did they know that she makes the Puritans look positively hedonistic? Did they know that her "ministry" - Saviors Alliance for Lifting the Truth - sponsored an abysmal failure of an ex-gay ministry and was a spokesperson for NARTH? And were they aware that as spokeperson for Concerned Women of America, she staunchly supported Jesse Helms' anti-AIDS-funding campaign?
In O'Donnell's world, righteousness trumps everything. She's against abortion, even in the case of rape or incest. She's against condoms because she think they promote a destructive lifestyle and actually help the spread of AIDS. She's against lying in any form and had this exchange with Eddy Izzard on Politically Incorrect:
IRONY #458:
O'DONNELL: A lie, whether it be a lie or an exaggeration, is disrespect to whoever you're exaggerating or lying to, because it's not respecting reality.
MAHER: Quite the opposite, it can be respect.
IZZARD: What if someone comes to you in the middle of the Second World War and says, "do you have any Jewish people in your house?' and you do have them. That would be a lie. That would be disrespectful to Hitler.
O'DONNELL: I believe if I were in that situation, God would provide a way to do the right thing righteously. I believe that!
MAHER: God is not there. Hitler's there and you're there.
O'DONNELL: You never have to practice deception. God always provides a way out.
Unfortunately for Miss Christine O'Donnell, people in her past are speaking out, and there may have been dozens of instances where she "practiced deception."
Kristin Murray, a Republican who served two months as O'Donnell's campaign manager in 2008, called the candidate a "complete fraud." Murray said she quit working for O'Donnell in 2008 after discovering that she didn't have a college degree, had failed to make payments on her mortgage and was using the campaign debit card for personal expenses.
Masturbation:
"If he already knows what pleases him and he can please himself, than why am I in the picture?"
Truth:
"There's only truth and not truth," she said. "You're either very good or evil ..."
Psychics:
"Psychics put people in spiritual harm, the same way pimps put people in physical harm."
Obama:
He's soooo liberal. He's anti-American," said O'Donnell. "He's beating the 'change' drum. But let's look at the change. He did not vote for English as the official language. What does that say?"
On J.R.R. Tolkien:
"You see Tolkien's wisdom applied to just about everything: Tolkien and communism, Tolkien and industrialization, ...In researching this topic I even found a book on Tolkien and sexual fetishes."
It's unfortunate that O'Donnell's negativity blinds Tea Baggers who see it as meaning less government. It's a negativity that harms (like NARTH) and even kills (no funding for AIDS).
O'Donnell's rhetoric (such as it is) is shallow: her buzz words are only an half-notch up from Sharron Angle's. She's trying to remedy her show of faults by expunging everything from her website and re-inventing herself. It won't work: her moments of shrill stupidity will be exposed, and her supporters will have to accept the fact that her entire campaign will bear the brunt of lies, disception, and fraud. And endorsements by Sarah Palin, Tony Perkins or the rest of the fringe Right will not stand against her past actions and associations.
If, however, she does win the election, it will show the rest of America and the world that some of our citizens prefer form over substance. Then again, maybe ...
Sarah Benincasa of Comedy Central's website, INDECISION FOREVER, said it best:
Please, for the love of God, let there be a Palin/O'Donnell ticket in 2012. Real America needs an anti-gay, anti-orgasm, anti-condom, anti-choice duo of stupid, attractive brunettes to lead this nation to true greatness.
